T-Mobile T-Satellite is designed to connect automatically when your eligible phone has no other service; there is no satellite setting or network you need to select manually. First check that your exact phone model is eligible and your line has T-Satellite access. Then try outdoors with a clear view of the sky and allow time for the network to connect or hand off between satellites.

Check these first

  1. Confirm your exact phone is eligible. Use T-Mobile’s T-Satellite support and eligibility page to check the model. T-Mobile says most smartphones from the last four years work, but that general description does not guarantee that every model supports every feature. Compatibility and supported features can change.
  2. Confirm your line has access. T-Satellite is included with some plans and is also available as an add-on; customers outside T-Mobile may be able to enroll. Check your current plan or account for access. Plan names and enrollment terms can change, so verify them with T-Mobile rather than relying on old plan details.
  3. Move to an open outdoor location. Buildings, roofs, and other obstructions can block the sky. T-Mobile says, “A clear view of the sky gets you the best signal.” Try a spot with as much open sky as possible, keep the phone in a stable position, and give it time to connect. This is a practical test, not a guarantee of service.

Check whether the phone has connected

T-Mobile says the phone connects automatically when no other service is available. When connected, the network indicator may read “T-Mobile SpaceX” or “T-Sat+Starlink.” The displayed name can help distinguish a satellite connection from an ordinary cellular one.

If the indicator does not appear, do not try to fix it by manually selecting a satellite network or changing APN settings: T-Mobile’s instructions do not call for either. Recheck eligibility, account access, and sky visibility, then check coverage for your location on T-Mobile’s T-Satellite page.

Allow for satellite delays and handoffs

A slow message does not necessarily mean the phone failed to connect. T-Mobile warns that messages may take longer over satellite, and that moving satellites can cause a disconnect from one satellite followed by an automatic reconnection to another. Coverage and network conditions can also cause gaps or time-outs. Allow a message to retry instead of repeatedly resending it.

Distinguish an app problem from a connection problem

T-Satellite data has lower speeds and limited capacity, and some apps may not work or may behave differently than they do on a traditional cellular network. If the satellite indicator is present but one app fails, that alone does not establish that the phone has lost satellite service. Try a basic messaging function or an app currently listed as supported by T-Mobile, and check the live app list because support can change.

If it still will not connect

If your phone is eligible, your line has access, you are outdoors with open sky, and the satellite indicator still never appears, contact T-Mobile through its T-Satellite support page. Give support details that can help narrow down the issue:

Do not rely on it as a guaranteed emergency channel

T-Mobile warns that text-to-911 over T-Satellite may be delayed, limited, or unavailable. Do not assume an emergency message will go through, and do not send test messages to emergency services. The carrier describes availability in most outdoor areas in the United States where the sky is visible and lists Canada, New Zealand, and Japan among international destinations; that does not establish coverage at a particular place or time. Check the live coverage information for your location.
