Compare the plans at a glance
Xbox’s US plan pages describe the following features and catalog sizes. Counts are Xbox’s own estimates, not guarantees that a specific game is included in your region or on your device. Catalogs and features can change.
| Plan | Xbox’s listed library | Release timing and included features | Cloud playtime shown on US overview |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | 50+ games across console, PC, and more devices | Online console multiplayer and in-game benefits; no new releases on day one | 5 hours per month |
| Premium | 200+ games across console, PC, and more devices | Cloud play; Xbox-published games added within one year of launch | 10 hours per month |
| Ultimate | 500+ games | New games on day one, EA Play, Fortnite Crew, Ubisoft+ Classics, and Xbox’s strongest streaming feature set among these choices | 15 hours per month |
| PC Game Pass | 300+ games on PC | Day-one titles and EA Play; cloud gaming is not included | Not included |
These summaries reflect Xbox’s plan descriptions in 2026; check the current comparison page for details. Xbox notes that game counts, library titles, features, and availability vary over time, by region, plan, and platform. Premium’s within-one-year timing applies to Xbox-published games; Xbox’s note identifies select games and excludes Call of Duty titles.
Choose based on your setup
Xbox console: decide whether Essential is enough
If you mainly want online console multiplayer and a library to browse, compare Essential with Premium. Essential covers multiplayer and has the smaller catalog. Premium makes more sense if you want a larger library or cloud play, and its Xbox-published games arrive within one year of launch rather than necessarily on release day.

Xbox console: compare Premium with Ultimate for newer releases
Choose between these tiers based on how much day-one access matters. Ultimate includes day-one releases; Premium’s stated timing for Xbox-published games is within one year. The day-one claim is not a promise that every game launches in the catalog: check the specific title and Xbox’s exclusions before paying more for earlier access.
PC-only gaming: consider PC Game Pass
PC Game Pass is the PC-focused option in Xbox’s plan descriptions. It includes day-one titles and EA Play, but not cloud gaming. If you also play on an Xbox console or want the broader device and cloud features described for other plans, compare those options rather than assuming the PC plan covers them.

Playing across devices or mainly streaming
Premium and Ultimate are described for console, PC, and supported devices. Essential also lists access across console, PC, and more devices, but its feature set differs. If streaming is central, compare the plan’s cloud allowance, the games you want, and whether your device and region are supported. PC Game Pass does not include cloud gaming.
Value the bundled memberships only if you will use them
Ultimate includes EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and Ubisoft+ Classics. Treat these as useful extras only if you would use them; a bundle is not automatically a better deal just because it names more services.

Check the games you actually want
A headline library count is a poor substitute for checking particular games. Search the current catalog for each title you care about and confirm the plan and platform listed for it. A game may not be available in every regional library or on every platform, and catalog access ends when your subscription ends or the game leaves the library. Xbox’s Game Pass page provides plan summaries and catalog information.
Check cloud play and device support
Cloud gaming depends on more than having a compatible screen: the plan, game, region, device, and current support terms also matter. Xbox’s comparison page lists Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles, Windows PCs, handhelds, Apple and Android phones and tablets, Samsung and LG smart TVs, Amazon Fire TVs, Meta VR headsets, and the web at xbox.com/play among supported devices. That list does not mean every plan or feature works on every listed device. Cloud gaming is limited to select regions and devices, and a supported device may be sold separately.

Quick Recap
A practical decision checklist
- Start with your platform: console, PC, or a mix of supported devices.
- Look up your must-play games: verify that each is currently available for your region, plan, and platform.
- Decide how soon you need new releases: Essential has no day-one new releases; Premium’s Xbox-published games arrive within one year; Ultimate and PC Game Pass list day-one titles, subject to title availability and exclusions.
- Separate downloads from streaming: PC Game Pass has no cloud gaming, while cloud access and monthly limits on other plans depend on plan and local terms.
- Count only extras you value: for example, Ultimate’s included memberships or Essential’s online console multiplayer.
- Compare the local recurring price: account for promotion end dates, renewal, and taxes before deciding.
