Then configure the PTT button or control inside that app; its setup depends on the app you chose.
Give a push-to-talk app microphone access
The permission-manager route below is documented in OnePlus materials for OxygenOS 14. Menu names and locations can vary by model and software version. Google documents both managing permissions by app and by permission type, so the app-specific route is a useful alternative if you cannot find the permission manager.

Open Settings.

For the OxygenOS 14 route, tap Security & Privacy > Privacy > Permission manager.

Tap Microphone, choose your PTT app, and select an access option offered on your phone. Android’s options can include Allow only while using the app, Ask every time, and Don’t allow; not every device or app presents every option. Allowing microphone permission lets the app record audio, while denying it blocks microphone use. Google’s Android permission guide explains the controls and choices.

If you do not see the app in the permission list, go to Settings > Apps > [PTT app] > Permissions and check Microphone.

Return to the app and set up its PTT button or control using the app’s own instructions. The permission setting only grants microphone access; it does not configure the PTT workflow.

Configure the PTT control in the app
OnePlus does not document a universal PTT switch or setup sequence in these materials. The button, activation method, and other controls belong to the specific PTT app. Follow that app’s official setup instructions for details, including whether it supports the way you want to use it. The cited OnePlus and Android guidance does not establish app-specific background, network, or hardware behavior.
Check whether Android is using or blocking the microphone
Identify an app using the microphone
On Android 12 and later, a green status indicator appears when an app is using the camera or microphone. Tap the indicator to identify the app or service; tap again to manage permissions. See Google’s guidance on camera and microphone indicators.
Check the system-wide microphone control
Swipe down twice to open Quick Settings and look for the microphone tile. If microphone access is switched off there, the PTT app cannot capture audio until access is restored. If the tile is not visible, you may be able to add it through Quick Settings editing. Google notes that the swipe-down method may not work on every device.

Review recent permission activity
The Privacy dashboard can show which apps accessed permissions and when. Open Settings > Security and Privacy or Privacy > Privacy dashboard, then choose the permission to review. Google’s Android guidance says the dashboard shows up to seven days of activity on Android 13 and 24 hours on Android 12. See Google’s Privacy dashboard guidance.

The app says microphone access is unavailable

Check the PTT app’s microphone permission in Permission manager or under Settings > Apps > [PTT app] > Permissions.

Check that the system-wide microphone control in Quick Settings is not off.

The app has permission but will not transmit
Check the app’s PTT state and follow its own setup instructions. Microphone permission alone does not establish that an app is configured to transmit, and the available OnePlus-wide guidance does not specify how an individual app handles transmission.
A green microphone indicator appears unexpectedly
Tap the indicator to identify the app or service using the microphone. Where available, review microphone activity in Privacy dashboard, then adjust the relevant app permission if needed.
You cannot find the menu on your OnePlus
Search Settings for Permission manager, or use Settings > Apps > [app] > Permissions. The cited OnePlus menu path is for OxygenOS 14, so it may differ on another OnePlus model or software release.
