Godot 4.3 RC 2 was a pre-release build published on 1 August 2024. Its changes were mainly regression fixes and fixes for longstanding issues, including updates to Android export, GDScript, imports, networking, and rendering. “Safe fixes” described the character of those changes—not a guarantee that RC2 would work without regressions in every project. Godot 4.3 stable followed on 15 August 2024, so RC2 is a historical release candidate, not the current release.

What Godot 4.3 RC 2 was

RC2 arrived one week after RC1. Godot’s release team described the release-candidate stage as a point when planned features were in place and the most critical regressions had been addressed, while community testing continued before the stable release. The announcement characterized most changes since RC1 as regression fixes or “safe” fixes to longstanding issues. That describes the intent and scope of the patch set; it does not certify compatibility with a particular project or export target.

The announcement reported: “41 contributors submitted 69 improvements for this new snapshot.” Those improvements covered fixes across editor workflows, scripting, import and export, rendering, networking, and platform behavior. See the Godot 4.3 RC 2 announcement and changelog for the full list.

Notable fixes in RC2

These examples are useful if they overlap with the features or platforms your project uses; they are not the complete changelog.

Android export and platform behavior

  • Android exports using custom keystores could fail when no JDK was configured in the operating system’s environment. RC2 included a fix.
  • An Android engine termination crash was fixed.
  • On Windows, rendering can fall back to D3D12 when Vulkan is unsupported, and vice versa.
  • Other platform-specific changes included OpenXR swapchain behavior and macOS process handling.

GDScript, imports, and editor work

  • A GDScript local variable could be cleared after execution left a while block; RC2 included a fix.
  • Blender scene import’s browse_dialog was updated to accept files, and empty scene import settings were handled to avoid a crash.
  • Other fixes addressed 3D editor selection, animation tracks, texture reimporting, and shader validation.

Networking and other runtime fixes

  • Multiplayer disconnect_peer cleanup was corrected.
  • WebSocket peer reuse, audio sample completion, and a GUI aspect-ratio division-by-zero issue were among the other areas touched.

Should you test RC2 on an existing project?

Consider RC2 only if a listed fix matters to your project or you are helping test the release. The announcement explicitly treated RC builds as pre-release software and advised frequent backups or version control to protect against corruption or data loss. It did not certify project-specific compatibility.

  1. Protect the working project. Commit the project to version control or make a separate backup before opening it in the candidate.
  2. Test a copy. Open a duplicate project rather than your only working copy, and check that it loads and behaves as expected.
  3. Exercise the workflows you actually use. For example, test relevant scene imports, Android exports and keystores, rendering on your target platform, networking, and any other feature connected to a fix.
  4. Check for showstoppers. Godot’s RC triage focused on regressions—something that worked in an earlier release but is broken without a workaround. Known bugs can still remain in a candidate.
  5. Report a reproducible regression. Check whether the issue has already been reported, then provide steps and project-specific details through Godot’s issue-reporting channels.

The historical RC2 announcement offered standard and .NET desktop builds and export templates, and also referenced Android and web-editor testing options. It described the standard build as supporting GDScript and GDExtension, while the .NET build added C# support. These were the options described for RC2 in August 2024, not a statement about what is available to download now.
