The bounty resolved if the target was eliminated or survived the timer, and Epic said the hunter’s whole party received Bars either way. Those rules describe the historical mechanic; Epic’s current support pages do not confirm whether bounty boards or a successor mechanic are available in the live season.
How did Fortnite bounties work?
In the Battle Royale system Epic described on December 2, 2020, a bounty was a timed player-hunt contract. A player or party accepted a target, then tried to eliminate that player before the timer expired. The target could also resolve the contract by staying alive until the timer ran out.
Epic’s announcement said: “Once the Bounty target is done and dusted or you’ve eluded capture, your whole party will be rewarded with a new in-game currency – Bars!” This is a description of the Season 5-era mechanic, not confirmation of how current matches work. Epic’s Bars & Bounties announcement
How did you find bounty targets?
The hunter did not receive an exact live position. The map showed a hint to the target’s last known location, which helped narrow the search. Meanwhile, the target saw a tracking meter that indicated how close the hunter was. That gave the target warning to move, hide, or prepare to fight without revealing the hunter’s precise position.

What did you get for completing a bounty?
Under Epic’s historical description, the whole party received Bars whether the target was eliminated or escaped capture by surviving the timer. Epic’s announcement did not specify a fixed payout amount, so there is no supported single figure to give here.
Bars need current context: Epic Support says Gold Bars reset every match beginning with Chapter 7 Season 1: Pacific Break. Players can drop Bars for teammates, and an in-game counter shows their balance. In other words, the historical bounty reward should not be read as currency that carries from one match to another under the current guidance. Epic Support’s Gold Bars article

Are Fortnite bounty boards available now?
Epic’s current support information cited here does not confirm whether bounty boards or a replacement bounty mechanic are available in the live season. A community-maintained Bounty Boards history page provides secondary context, but it is not an authoritative confirmation of current availability. Check the in-game map and Fortnite’s live news for the status in your current season.
Do Fortnite bounties count toward quests?
Epic directs players to the lobby’s Quests menu to see available quests. Quests may differ by Fortnite experience, and usual rewards include XP, level-ups, or cosmetic items. Epic’s available quest instructions do not say that bounty activity advances any specific quest or Battle Pass objective, so check the live quest descriptions rather than assuming a bounty will count.
