Yes—but only with a power supply documented for your exact Starlink model. Starlink’s “bypass mode” is a router setting that turns off built-in Wi-Fi; it does not bypass the terminal’s power supply. For supported Standard-family kits, Starlink documents a Standard DC-DC Power Supply. For Performance and compatible Standard 4 / Standard 4 X kits, it documents an Advanced Power Supply that accepts AC or DC input. Neither option makes an ordinary PoE injector or direct battery-to-terminal wiring universally supported.
What “bypass mode” does—and does not do
Starlink bypass mode disables the built-in router Wi-Fi so a third-party router can manage the network. On supported kits, it is enabled in the Starlink app; leaving bypass mode may require a factory reset. It does not change how the terminal is powered. See Starlink’s bypass mode instructions.
Choose a power supply by Starlink model
Identify the terminal and kit before choosing a DC power route. Starlink documents different options for different families; its listed consumption figures are AC-input averages, not a universal recipe for DC wiring.
| Starlink kit | Documented supply route | Input information | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supported Standard-family models | Starlink Standard DC-DC Power Supply | 12–48 VDC input at 30 A; 56 V, 3.57 A output | Starlink says it is available only in select markets. Its support page names Standard 4 and Standard 4 X; check current regional availability and exact-kit compatibility. |
| Performance and compatible Standard 4 / Standard 4 X | Starlink Advanced Power Supply | 100–240 VAC or 12–56 VDC input | For DC input, Starlink recommends above 20 V where possible; lower input may constrain output under high demand. |
| Other Starlink models, including Mini and Standard Actuated | Not established by the cited supply compatibility information | Not stated for these supply routes | Verify the official power path for the precise terminal; do not infer compatibility from another model’s ratings. |
Starlink describes the Standard DC-DC supply as a way to power compatible Standard terminals from a DC source without an inverter. Its published ratings describe that supply—not permission to connect a battery directly to the terminal cable. Review the DC-input supply options and Standard DC-DC Power Supply specifications.

For Performance and compatible Standard 4 / Standard 4 X kits, Starlink documents the Advanced Power Supply as an AC/DC option. The Performance Gen 3 setup guide describes connecting the terminal with the supplied AC or DC cable, as appropriate; see the Performance specifications and Performance Gen 3 setup guide.
Why Advanced Power Supply DC voltage matters
In the Performance context, Starlink’s durability guide says the Advanced Power Supply DC input was qualified from 10.5 V to 57 V, but recommends powering it above 20 V when possible. At lower input voltages, output can be reduced to keep total current below 20 A; a high-demand terminal with snow melt active may throttle. Treat this as model- and supply-specific guidance, not a general rule for every Starlink DC installation. See the Performance Kit Durability Guide.

Power consumption varies by terminal
Starlink’s support figures below are AC-input averages. The company notes that use, location, temperature, and terminal family affect consumption; the figures are not DC supply specifications.
| Terminal family | Average consumption | Idle consumption |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Actuated | 50–75 W | 20 W |
| Standard 4 and Standard 4 X | 75–100 W | 20 W |
| Mini | 20–40 W | 15 W |
| Performance Gen 1 / Gen 2 | 110–150 W | 45 W |
These are Starlink’s listed product figures; the support page does not state a publication year. Consult Starlink’s power-consumption information for the model you own.

What not to assume about PoE or direct wiring
- A generic PoE injector is compatible: Starlink’s cited documents describe its own supplies and cables, not arbitrary third-party PoE injectors.
- A terminal can be wired directly from a battery: The Standard DC-DC supply’s ratings do not provide a universal pinout or direct-wiring instruction.
- One supply fits every generation: Starlink lists distinct terminal families and model-specific compatibility. Confirm the exact kit and local availability before buying.
For Performance Gen 3, Starlink’s setup guide describes the Advanced Power Supply and supplied AC or DC cable. Its Performance maritime and mobility installation guide likewise describes a supply delivering power to the dish while passing data to network equipment. These documented layouts do not establish compatibility with an unrelated injector.
