Temporary activity after an update
After a system update, the phone may optimize software, recompile apps and re-index content in the background. Xiaomi says this can temporarily increase consumption and typically stabilizes within a few charge cycles. Apps, screen use and connectivity
The battery’s reported usage ranking is a useful starting point. Look for an app or activity using substantially more power than you would expect for how you used the phone. Long screen-on sessions, high brightness, background activity and connections left active when unnecessary can all contribute to consumption; the ranking helps distinguish among them. What to try first
- Check the battery-usage ranking. Open Settings and look for Battery or Battery & performance, then find the battery usage or power-consumption list. Menu labels and exact paths vary by software version. Identify unusually active apps and whether the screen or another activity is the main consumer.
- Limit background activity you do not need. Close apps you have finished using, and review whether an app needs to keep running or syncing in the background. If one app accounts for unusually high use, update it or limit its background activity using the available app or battery settings.
- Reduce display demand. Lower screen brightness when practical. The Redmi 17C 5G has a 6.9-inch display supporting up to 120Hz; if your software offers a refresh-rate control, try a lower setting and see whether it suits your use. - Use Battery Saver when you need more time between charges. Enable it from the Battery settings or the available quick settings control. Xiaomi also advises avoiding a very low charge where practical. Xiaomi support guidance
- Test connectivity as a cause of standby drain. When you do not need a connection, try disabling the relevant radio temporarily. Xiaomi’s general troubleshooting guidance suggests flight mode as a way to compare standby consumption. Separate battery drain from slow charging
A phone that loses charge quickly has a different problem from one that charges slowly. Xiaomi says charging power can vary with the charger and cable, the remaining charge, temperature and heavy use while charging. A compatible charger may affect how quickly the phone replenishes, but buying one is not a documented fix for abnormal discharge. When to contact Xiaomi service
If rapid drain keeps recurring alongside overheating, Xiaomi recommends an after-sales inspection. Its UK FAQ also lists up to 105 hours of music playback, while Xiaomi India says the battery is designed to retain 80% or more capacity after 1,000 full charge cycles.
