AMD announced the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 on February 28, 2025, with partner cards expected to become available beginning March 6. AMD’s David McAfee said the extra time was intended to optimize the software stack, support more FSR 4 games and build initial retailer inventory. March 6 was an expected start date—not a guarantee that every retailer or region had stock that day.
Why was the RX 9070 launch delayed until March?
AMD’s David McAfee, vice president and general manager of Radeon and Ryzen, explained the schedule as giving the company “a little extra time to optimize the software stack for maximum performance and enable more FSR 4 titles,” according to PCGamesN’s report on March 5, 2025. The report also said AMD wanted to build initial retailer inventory. This is AMD’s reported rationale for the timing, not independent confirmation that these were the only factors behind the schedule. PCGamesN’s March 5 report
