Before you install: check your edition and entitlement
First confirm which account or platform holds your license and which version you intend to play. The Remastered release is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. CD PROJEKT RED lists GOG, Steam, and Epic Games Store for eligible existing-owner PC upgrades; it also lists Battle.net and Microsoft Store as purchase options. For PlayStation and Xbox, check the product page in the account or console library where you own the game. Eligibility can vary, so do not assume that every previous owner receives the same upgrade or that one platform purchase unlocks another.

How do I install The Witcher 3 on PC?
- Check the current PC requirements before downloading. CD PROJEKT RED says Windows 10 is no longer officially supported and an SSD is required for the current technical enhancements. Expected frame rates depend on your hardware, resolution, and graphics settings. Review the current PC requirements rather than relying on older requirements for a previous game version.
- Sign in to the storefront account that owns the game or is eligible for the upgrade: GOG, Steam, or Epic Games Store. If you are buying Remastered, CD PROJEKT RED also lists Battle.net and Microsoft Store.
- Find the game in your library or the storefront, choose the Remastered PC version where applicable, and start the installation. Select a drive with enough available space.
- Let the storefront finish downloading and applying updates. Then launch the game from that storefront’s library.
Launcher interfaces differ, and the official guidance does not establish one click-by-click sequence that applies to every PC storefront. Follow the labels shown in your own client and confirm that it is installing the intended edition.

How do I download The Witcher 3 on PS5?
- Sign in to the PlayStation account that owns the game or has the relevant upgrade entitlement.
- Open your console library or PlayStation Store, locate the game, and confirm that the product is the PS5 version.
- Download and install it, then launch it from the console library.
Upgrade eligibility and disc-owner cases can depend on the product and entitlement shown on your account. Check the PS5 product page before installing; the official material does not establish a universal disc-upgrade rule or a current screen-by-screen walkthrough for every case.
Move a PS4 save to PS5
CD PROJEKT RED’s support guide describes transferring a save by updating the PS4 game to the required patch, connecting it to a CD PROJEKT RED account through My Rewards, and creating a save that uploads to the cloud. On PS5, connect the same account and load the uploaded save. Because menu labels and patch requirements may change, check the current instructions in the PS4-to-PS5 save-transfer guide and the newer FAQ before proceeding.
How do I install The Witcher 3 on Xbox Series X or S?
- Sign in to the Microsoft account that owns the game or is eligible for the upgrade.
- Open the console library or Microsoft Store, find the game, and check that the product page is for Xbox Series X|S.
- Install the game and launch it from your library.
The Remastered release is listed for Xbox Series X|S and is also available through Microsoft Store as an Xbox Play Anywhere title. The correct version and entitlement can depend on whether you own a digital license or disc and on your console; use the product page for your own account to verify what you can install.

Can I play my old Witcher 3 save on Remastered?
Yes. CD PROJEKT RED says existing saves are compatible with Remastered. However, the skill-system overhaul resets skills, so expect to allocate your character’s skills again after loading a save. Compatibility does not mean a save is automatically moved between platforms; use cross-progression when continuing on a different platform.
How to use cross-progression
- Update the game on the source platform to the latest patch.
- Open Load Game and select Cross Progression.
- Connect the game to a CD PROJEKT RED account.
- Create a new save so it can upload to the cloud.
- On the destination platform, open My Rewards, connect the same account, and load the uploaded save.
CD PROJEKT RED says the latest saves are uploaded to the cloud for play on other platforms. Cross-progression carries save data; it does not grant a license for the game on the destination platform. You still need the appropriate platform entitlement to install and play there. See the official cross-progression instructions for current requirements.

A clean reinstall is for troubleshooting, not the normal first-install process. If ordinary updates or launching fail and you choose this route, follow CD PROJEKT RED’s instructions carefully:

- Back up your saves first, then disable cloud saves.
- Uninstall the game.
- Remove only the client and Documents folders specified in the official clean-install instructions.
- Restart the PC and reinstall the game without mods.
- Restore your saves afterward if needed.
Do not delete other folders or skip the save backup. The official guide specifies which folders to remove; use it rather than guessing at file paths.
Choosing where to play
Start with the platform where you already own the game, then verify the version and upgrade entitlement on that platform. For PC, check whether your hardware meets the current requirements, especially the SSD requirement and Windows support. If you plan to switch platforms, consider whether you need cross-progression and confirm that you also have a license on the destination platform. The announcement notes Path Tracing for PC and PS5 Pro support, but it does not establish that performance or features are identical across platforms.
