Check that your plan includes Game Catalog access, start the game early, and plan around the specific ending or completion goal you care about. If time is too short, check whether buying the game is a workable alternative.
First, check what “leaves the catalog” means for your access
Sony says some Game Catalog and Classics Catalog titles have an end date and will be removed from PlayStation Plus. Once a title leaves, downloading it or adding it to your library does not preserve access. The date shown for your account’s region is the relevant one; catalog availability changes, so an old article or a date from another region may not apply. See Sony’s PlayStation Plus FAQ.
Do not confuse a catalog game with a monthly game. Sony says monthly games added to an account can be played while the membership is active. Catalog titles, by contrast, require the relevant plan and must still be offered in the service.
Make sure your plan includes the Game Catalog
Game Catalog access is included with PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, not Essential. Premium members can also stream eligible titles. Check your current membership and the game’s listing rather than assuming that a download or an earlier subscription tier gives you access.

Know the two deadlines
For a catalog game, access can end when the title leaves the catalog or when your membership ends. Sony says cancellation does not immediately remove benefits: they continue until the paid period ends, after which subscription benefits cease. See Sony’s cancellation and membership guidance.
Find the departure date and get into the game early
Check the title’s PlayStation Store or catalog listing while signed in to the account and region you use to play. Sony’s catalog changes over time, so use the date currently displayed there, not a date copied from an old list. Once you have confirmed eligibility, begin the download early enough to allow for installation and updates. Sony says most games in the service can be downloaded. If you have Premium, streaming may let you start sooner, but only if that specific game is streamable on your supported device. It does not extend the departure deadline.
Choose download or streaming based on the game and your setup

Sony’s support page lists a minimum internet speed of 5 Mbps for cloud streaming and 15 Mbps for 1080p streaming. These are connection requirements, not estimates of how quickly you can finish a game. See Sony’s game-streaming requirements.

Set a realistic finish line and schedule
There is no useful universal completion-time estimate for an unnamed game. The time you need depends on the title, your progress, difficulty, and what you consider “finished.” Decide whether you want the main story, a particular ending, or full completion before you schedule the remaining play.
- Check your progress. Use the in-game story, chapter, or objective list to identify what remains for your chosen goal.
- Estimate the remaining work for this title. If you need an outside completion-time reference, look for a current estimate for the specific game and distinguish its main-story figure from side content or completionist play. Adjust it for your own progress and pace.
- Divide the work into real sessions. Fit required objectives into the time you can actually play before the displayed removal date.
- Leave a buffer. Reserve time for updates, difficult sections, and sensible save or exit points instead of planning to finish at the last possible moment.
If your goal is the story or a particular ending, put required story objectives first. Leave optional collectibles, side quests, and multiplayer grinds for later unless they are part of what you personally mean by “finished.”

If you cannot finish in time, compare your alternatives

Do not assume that a separately purchased edition will use the same save or content. Confirm compatibility for the exact game and edition before relying on a purchase as a continuation plan.

Sony says DLC and add-ons associated with a catalog game also become inaccessible if the base game leaves the service or your membership ends. They can be used again if you resubscribe or purchase the game, subject to the title’s availability and terms.
