If your iPhone shows SOS, SOS only, No Service or Searching, it is not connected to its own cellular network. Start by toggling Airplane Mode and restarting the phone; then check updates, your cellular line or SIM, and your carrier account and coverage. SOS may still allow an emergency call through another carrier, but it does not restore ordinary calls, texts or mobile data.
What SOS or No Service means
Apple says that “No Service” or “Searching” means the iPhone is not connected to a cellular network. SOS or SOS only likewise indicates that it is not connected to its own carrier’s network. Where another carrier’s network is available, an emergency call may still be possible; normal cellular service has not returned. Apple’s troubleshooting guidance and its Emergency SOS information explain these distinctions.
If someone needs immediate help, try an emergency call even when the phone shows SOS or No Service. On supported iPhone models in supported regions, Emergency SOS via satellite may be another option when cellular and Wi-Fi are unavailable. Follow the onscreen instructions and move to a place with a clear view of the sky. Satellite availability depends on the device and location.
Try these fixes in order

Refresh the cellular connection
Open Control Center or Settings, turn on Airplane Mode, wait at least 15 seconds, then turn it off. If the iPhone still has no service, restart it. Airplane Mode can prompt the phone to reconnect when a cellular network is available.

Install iOS and carrier settings updates
Connect to Wi-Fi and install any available iOS update. To check for carrier settings, open Settings > General > About and wait briefly; if an update is offered, follow the prompt to install it. Carrier settings can be especially relevant after changing carriers or inserting a new SIM.

Make sure the affected line is on
For Dual SIM, open Settings > Cellular, select the line without service, and confirm that Turn On This Line is enabled. If the line does not appear, contact your carrier to check eSIM setup or obtain a physical SIM as appropriate.

Check a physical SIM, if your iPhone uses one
Remove the SIM and reinsert it, making sure it sits correctly in the tray. Contact your carrier for a replacement if the SIM is damaged, does not fit, or was moved from another device. A SIM ejector tool may help open the tray, but buying one is not required if you already have an appropriate tool.

Check roaming while traveling
If the problem began abroad, check whether data roaming is enabled: open Settings > Cellular (or Cellular Data on some versions), select the relevant line if prompted, and look for Data Roaming. Labels and exact paths can differ by iOS version and SIM configuration. Ask the carrier whether your plan includes roaming and whether it has been enabled for your account.

Find out whether the carrier or the iPhone is the cause
The carrier controls account status, network coverage and outages, plan provisioning, and whether a device is blocked or barred. Contact the carrier and ask it to check each of those for your number and location. If the iPhone was purchased outside your country or region, ask whether local IMEI registration is required. Apple notes that only the carrier can access and manage account details.
Phone-side checks include whether the cellular line is enabled, whether a physical SIM is seated correctly, and whether iOS or carrier settings need updating. If the carrier confirms the account, plan and local network are fine but service remains absent, Apple says the iPhone may need hardware service. On iPhone models running iOS 18 or later, the Apple Support app may also offer additional diagnostics to help identify the issue.
