Blast announced on October 2, 2026, that it will wind down its Ethereum Layer 2 and is asking users to withdraw assets to Ethereum mainnet. The announced plan includes a temporary withdrawal pause while Blast withdraws its Lido assets, then a planned 24-hour withdrawal delay. The normal Blast interface is intended to support withdrawals through October 26, 2026; after that, users are expected to interact directly with Blast bridge contracts on Ethereum. The dates and steps are announced plans, not confirmation that each stage has already happened.

What Blast has announced

Blast says the economics of operating the chain no longer make sense: maintaining the L2 costs more than the revenue it generates, and the project sees no credible path to economic sustainability. The announcement asks users to withdraw assets to Ethereum mainnet, including balances held in the Blast PWA. A copy of Blast’s notice gives the operational plan; The Block reported the same main details on October 2, 2026.

When withdrawals are expected to work

The notice does not give exact start or end times for the pause. Treat the stages below as announced timing, not a guarantee that a withdrawal will complete on a particular date.

Stage Announced plan What it means for users
Lido asset withdrawal Withdrawals are expected to be unavailable for approximately one week while Blast withdraws its Lido assets. Wait for Blast’s operational update rather than assuming a transaction can proceed during the pause.
After the Lido stage Withdrawals are expected to resume with a 24-hour delay. Allow for the announced delay when planning an exit.
Through October 26, 2026 The normal Blast interface is intended to support withdrawals through this date. Use the ordinary interface while it is available, and check the current status before initiating a transaction.
After October 26, 2026 The notice says users will need to interact directly with Blast bridge contracts on Ethereum. The retrieved notice copy says detailed instructions will follow; do not guess contract steps or use an unverified address.

How the exit depends on what you hold

The token name alone does not determine the route. First establish whether the asset is in a wallet balance, Blast PWA, or another contract such as a lending market, liquidity pool, or vault. A position in a protocol may need to be withdrawn or unwound there before the underlying asset can be bridged.

Asset or position What Blast documents What to check before exiting
ETH on Blast Blast describes ETH on Blast as rebasing, with yield linked to Ethereum staking and initially to Lido. The shutdown notice describes a withdrawal route to Ethereum, alongside the temporary Lido-related pause. Check whether your ETH is a direct wallet balance or represented inside another protocol. The notice does not promise an individual balance’s timing or exact amount.
USDB Blast describes USDB as an auto-rebasing stablecoin that can be redeemed for DAI when bridging back to Ethereum. The Blast bridge page presents withdrawal functionality. If USDB is deposited in a separate lending market, LP, vault, or other contract, check that protocol’s withdrawal and redemption steps; the general bridge description does not establish that such a position converts automatically.
Blast-native nrETH or nrUSDB Blast’s developer guide describes these as non-rebasing wrappers that can be unwrapped to WETH and USDB, respectively. Confirm the exact token and contract. This wrapper mechanism applies to the documented Blast tokens, not to every asset described as an LST.
External LST, such as stETH or wstETH The shutdown notice does not enumerate exit outcomes for third-party LSTs. Identify the token contract and any protocol holding it. Do not assume Blast’s withdrawal of its Lido assets automatically redeems your external LST or a position containing one.

What to check before withdrawing

  1. Locate the balance. Check your Blast wallet and PWA, then each dapp where you may have deposited, staked, lent, or supplied liquidity.
  2. Identify the exact asset. Distinguish rebasing ETH or USDB from a wrapper such as nrETH/nrUSDB and from an external LST or protocol receipt token.
  3. Check the relevant protocol’s exit route. If the asset is in a pool, market, vault, or other contract, follow that protocol’s instructions to retrieve the underlying token before using a bridge route.
  4. Check Blast’s current withdrawal status and instructions. The bridge interface is the documented normal route, but the announcement’s pause and post-deadline contract process may affect availability.
  5. For direct contract interaction, wait for verified instructions. After the announced interface deadline, use the contract addresses and procedure published by Blast; the notice copy available here does not contain those final steps.

What is not established by the announcement

The notice gives a broad withdrawal plan, not a complete exit map for every token, third-party LST, or dapp position. It also does not provide exact timestamps for the pause, confirm later execution of the planned stages, or include the final direct-contract instructions. A separate Blast testnet bridge guide describes an approximately seven-day withdrawal process for that testnet procedure; that estimate is not the shutdown-specific mainnet timeline and should not be substituted for the notice’s announced 24-hour delay after the Lido stage.
