A game subscription is worth paying for only if, over the period you’ll subscribe, the games you’ll actually play and benefits you’ll actually use justify its full cost. Start with a realistic shortlist, check that each game is included for your device and region, and compare the subscription with what you would otherwise spend—not with the value of an entire catalog.
Estimate value over a period you can actually compare
Choose a month or year to match the plan you’re considering. Add the subscription charges for that period, using the price and renewal terms that apply to your account, country, billing platform and taxes. If a price is introductory or promotional, separate it from the renewal price.
Then make a shortlist of games you would realistically play during that period. For each one, check the service’s current catalog for the correct edition, region and supported platform. Catalogs and offers change, so a title mentioned in a plan description is not a substitute for checking whether the specific game you want is available to you now.
Be honest about time. Estimate the hours you can spend and compare that with the length and number of games on your list. A large library has little practical value if you have time for only one game—or if the available titles don’t interest you.

- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)

- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
Use a personal break-even calculation
Estimated subscription value = avoided purchase cost for games you would truly buy + value of extra benefits you would truly use − subscription cost.
Count a game’s purchase price only if you would otherwise have bought it or paid to access it during the same period. A title you might someday try is not a saving equal to its retail price. Likewise, assign no value to multiplayer, cloud saves, classic-game libraries, DLC, trials, discounts or streaming unless you expect to use those benefits.

This is a decision aid, not a market statistic. It does not predict how much you will play or prove a service is cheaper for everyone. The calculation is only as useful as your game list, actual checkout price and assumptions about what you would buy.
Compare plans using the same criteria
If more than one service could work, compare the same factors for each: device compatibility, titles you want, available play time, full cost for the period, renewal terms, useful extras and what happens to access when you cancel. Check the actual games before comparing library size.

Include renewal and access rules in the cost
A subscription’s advertised period is not necessarily the whole commitment. Sony describes U.S. PlayStation Plus subscriptions as continuing until canceled. Nintendo says membership auto-renews after the initial term at the then-current price unless canceled; its free trial converts automatically to a one-month renewing membership unless auto-renewal is turned off by the trial’s end. Ubisoft’s U.S. terms say subscriptions purchased from Ubisoft renew monthly at the then-current price unless canceled. Check the terms for the account and plan you intend to use.

Cancellation often stops the next renewal rather than ending access immediately. Ubisoft says cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and EA says canceled members retain features through the current membership period. The exact timing and process can depend on where you purchased the subscription.

Subscription access is not the same as owning a game. EA says access to Play List games ends when membership ends unless you buy the game separately or rejoin. EA also says progress remains if save files have not been manually deleted. Ubisoft’s U.S. terms state: “After that current Subscription period ends, you will no longer have access to the Ubisoft+ Services, including without limitation, the Early Access, Discounts, Multi-Platform Access, Ubisoft+ Games or any in-game purchases made within a Ubisoft+ Game (unless you have purchased the game and have access to it in your Account separate from Ubisoft+).”

If you prefer to finish games at your own pace, include the possibility of losing access in your decision. If you plan to play a specific set of titles for a short stretch, a shorter subscription period—where offered—can make the choice easier to reassess before another renewal. Confirm the plan’s actual billing and cancellation terms rather than assuming cancellation immediately removes access.
Quick Recap
Make the decision with your own shortlist
- Likely a good fit: Your shortlist includes several games you would otherwise pay to play, they are available on your device, and you have enough time to use them during the subscription period.
- Potentially worthwhile for extras: The game savings alone are modest, but you regularly use included features such as multiplayer or classic-game access.
- Likely poor value: You want few or no included games, have little time to play, or would subscribe mainly for benefits you do not use.
- Recheck before checkout: Confirm the current catalog, regional price, renewal amount, billing term and cancellation rules for the exact plan.
