Does sunlight make LEGO bricks yellow?
LEGO warns that direct sunlight and excessive heat may lead to discoloration over time. The Library of Congress also explains that light exposure can cause fading, yellowing, embrittlement, and color change in collection materials. Its guidance is for cultural heritage objects generally, not a LEGO-specific test, so it does not establish how quickly a particular LEGO piece will change color. That supports limiting exposure rather than relying on a precise safe duration; no LEGO-specific exposure rate or timeline is established by this guidance.
Should you use a display case?
A case is an optional dust-control measure for a displayed build, not a guarantee against aging. LEGO lists minifigure display cases among its storage options. If you want UV protection, verify that the specific case glazing is described as UV-absorbing; ordinary glass or acrylic should not be assumed to block UV without product specifications. The Library of Congress discusses UV-absorbing glazing as a conservation measure when UV cannot be removed at the light source, but that is general collections guidance rather than LEGO-specific product testing. Even with a case, keep the model away from direct sunlight.

What storage can—and cannot—do for resale value
