But a bank or payments company using RippleNet or Ripple Payments is not, by that fact alone, proof that it uses XRP—or settles payments on the public XRP Ledger—in a particular live corridor. The public customer examples reviewed here disclose different levels of detail, and several do not name the settlement asset or ledger.
How an XRP-based cross-border payment works
Ripple’s ODL documentation describes a payment design in which XRP bridges a transfer between a sending position and a destination market. The institution still has to arrange the recipient’s fiat payout: moving XRP is only one part of the end-to-end payment.
Individual remittance or business payment
- A payment provider, fintech, or business funds a designated sender wallet with XRP.
- The sender retrieves and accepts a quote through RippleNet API operations.
- XRP moves from the sender wallet to a receiver wallet.
- The receiving side liquidates the XRP for destination fiat and pays the beneficiary.
Ripple identifies remittance providers, fintechs handling overseas small-business B2B payments, and companies transferring treasury funds to foreign accounts as potential ODL users. These are documented product use cases, not evidence that every Ripple customer uses ODL or follows every step in the same way.
Bulk funding and internal treasury
In Ripple’s described bulk-funding flow, XRP funds a receiver’s position, which is converted to fiat for the sender’s account before beneficiaries are paid later. For an internal treasury transfer, the customer liquidates XRP into the destination currency and transfers that fiat to a local bank account. In both cases, institutions must account for conversion and payout as well as the digital-asset transfer.

Ripple, XRP, and the XRP Ledger are different things
- Ripple is the company that offers institutional payment products and network services. A customer relationship can involve APIs, payment information, liquidity, or payout arrangements.
- XRP and ODL refer to the digital asset and the product flow Ripple documents for using XRP between designated wallets before conversion or payout.
- The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is a blockchain network whose official documentation describes direct XRP payments and cross-currency payments. A network’s capabilities, or a company’s product description, do not establish that a named institution uses the public ledger in production.
Ripple’s customer materials therefore need to be read for what each one actually identifies. “RippleNet partner” or “Ripple Payments user” does not establish the asset, ledger, or settlement route used for a specific payment.

| SBI Remit and Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) | Ripple’s case study describes Japan-to-Thailand remittances through RippleNet, with Thai recipients receiving THB in an SCB savings account within seconds. The same undated SBI Remit case page reports more than 10 billion JPY in monthly cumulative payment volume, 90% of customers as foreigners living in Japan, implementation in three months, and three-second settlement. | The corridor description does not specify XRP or public-XRPL settlement. The case-page figures are not dated on the page and should not be treated as current independently verified performance. |
| SCB app-based remittances | Ripple’s case study says SCB Easy app remittances use Ripple. It reports more than half a million RippleNet transactions and 335% year-over-year volume growth in 2020; the undated page also lists one-minute end-to-end processing, 80,000 monthly transactions, and $400 million in monthly person-to-person remittance settlements. | The case page does not identify the asset or ledger for each payment. The 2020 figures are historical, while the dates for the other three metrics are not stated; none is an independent audit or a 2026 performance measure. |
| Travelex Bank | Ripple describes Travelex using Ripple Payments for global payment management, liquidity access, and near-instant settlement, and says it gained ten new clients in one year through Ripple’s network. | The case description does not identify XRP or public-XRPL settlement. The client figure is Ripple-reported, not an independently established network outcome. |
| Tranglo | Ripple describes Tranglo as a payments hub using Ripple Payments, with payouts across more than 70 countries. Its undated case page reports 5,500 payout partners and more than 100 financial institutions and partners; co-founder Hui Yong Sia says payments can be processed end-to-end in less than a minute. | The page does not say each payment uses XRP or settles on the public XRPL. Its network figures and processing statement are company-reported, not neutral market benchmarks. |
| AMINA Bank | In a December 12, 2025 announcement, Ripple said the Swiss-regulated bank would use Ripple Payments to support near-real-time cross-border payments. The announcement discusses stablecoin-to-fiat rails, names Ripple USD (RLUSD) and other stablecoins, and describes access between blockchain and traditional banking rails. | The announcement does not say the described flow uses XRP. Ripple’s accompanying claims that its network represents more than 90% of the global FX market and had processed more than $95 billion are company-level claims, not measurements of AMINA’s flows. |
How to assess whether a payment model fits
Compare the specific origin-destination corridor and operating model, rather than relying on broad claims about speed or coverage. Ripple’s product materials describe its own offerings, but the cited material does not provide a neutral, like-for-like comparison of total cost or corridor performance across providers.
- All-in cost: Include FX spread, liquidity charges, payout fees, and any costs associated with funding or maintaining positions—not just a quoted transfer fee.
- Liquidity and prefunding: Check whether liquidity is available where and when the institution needs it, and whether the design reduces, shifts, or still requires prefunded balances.
- End-to-end time: Measure from payment initiation through conversion and last-mile payout. Ledger confirmation alone is not the time a beneficiary waits for usable funds.
- Reach and payout method: Verify the actual destination countries, local partners, currencies, and methods available for the corridors the institution serves.
- Compliance and operations: Establish responsibilities for sanctions screening, recordkeeping, licensing, reconciliation, exception handling, and service availability.
- Asset and counterparty exposure: Where a digital asset is involved, assess volatility exposure, custody controls, conversion arrangements, and the counterparties involved at each stage.
- Integration burden: Evaluate API work, accounting treatment, operational support, and how failures or delayed payouts are handled.
What can—and cannot—be concluded about bank use of XRP
Ripple documents ODL as an XRP-based design for remittances, SME B2B transfers, and treasury movements. The named examples demonstrate institutional relationships or payment services described by Ripple, but their public materials do not establish that those institutions use XRP and the public XRP Ledger together in live production corridors. The specific asset-and-ledger combination for those deployments remains unconfirmed by the cited customer pages.
