Start by identifying which part is failing: touch input, the detachable Bluetooth keyboard, the second screen, or the main display. The right fix depends on the symptom. Try the settings and software checks below first; if the problem continues, use ASUS diagnostics or contact ASUS support. Model-specific steps in this guide are based mainly on the UX8406MA, UX8406CA, and UX8407AA, so confirm your exact model and Windows version before applying them.
Fix an inaccurate or unresponsive touchscreen
First confirm that the affected display is supposed to support touch. ASUS recommends checking Windows’ touch information before troubleshooting drivers or firmware.
- Search Windows for View pen and touch info and open the result. Check whether Windows identifies touch input for the display. If a screen that should support touch is not recognized as touch-capable, contact authorized ASUS service rather than assuming a software setting will fix it. ASUS’s touchscreen troubleshooting guide covers these checks.
- Shut down the computer. Inspect the panel for damage, then gently wipe dirt or smudges with a soft cloth that is only lightly dampened. Do not spray liquid directly on the screen or leave it wet; let it dry fully before testing. Temporarily remove the screen protector or nearby accessories in case they are interfering.
- Open Device Manager and expand Human Interface Devices. If HID-compliant touch screen is disabled, enable it. If it is enabled but not working properly, follow ASUS’s guide to uninstall the touchscreen device, scan for hardware changes, and restart. Keep the computer connected to the internet in case Windows needs to retrieve the driver.
- Install current Windows updates and the BIOS, drivers, and other packages listed for your exact model on ASUS support. If touch works but lands in the wrong place, search Windows for Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input, set up the touch display, and reset calibration if needed. Restart and test again.
If the problem remains, run MyASUS System Diagnosis if it is available, or contact ASUS support. ASUS lists a Touch Screen Firmware Update Tool and User Guide for the UX8406MA, dated 2024-09-18, on its UX8406MA support page. That listing establishes a model-specific resource, not a universal fix: use it only when it matches your model and follow its instructions.
Reconnect or troubleshoot the detachable keyboard
The detachable UX8406 Bluetooth keyboard is paired wirelessly. A keyboard that will not connect is a different problem from keys producing unexpected characters or a keyboard backlight that stays off.

Pairing, typing, or charging problems
- Update the computer’s drivers through MyASUS, as ASUS recommends.
- Hold F10 or F11 on the dedicated keyboard until its indicator flashes. Accept the pairing prompt on the computer.
- If Windows does not show a prompt, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device, choose the keyboard, and follow the pairing steps. If Windows displays a PIN, type it on the keyboard and press Enter.
- Check the keyboard battery status in ScreenXpert’s Bluetooth device status. Charge the keyboard through its POGO PIN connection or USB-C port. ASUS says the keyboard’s USB-C port is for charging, not data transfer.
These pairing and charging instructions are documented in ASUS’s Zenbook Duo FAQ. If the keys connect but type the wrong characters, check the Windows language and keyboard layout. For built-in keyboard or hotkey faults, use ASUS’s keyboard troubleshooting guide and install the relevant model-specific drivers or utilities through MyASUS or the ASUS support site.
Backlight-only problems
If the keys work but only the keyboard backlight is faulty, use ASUS’s separate keyboard-backlight troubleshooting guide. It includes EC reset and BIOS-setting checks; those steps are specifically for backlight symptoms, not a general remedy for every keyboard fault.

Restore the second screen or correct its appearance
The second screen is black
- In ScreenXpert, check that Switch on the second screen is enabled.
- Open Settings > System > Display in Windows and select Extend these displays.
ASUS notes that the second screen is not displayed while Windows is at the lock screen. The two display checks and this lock-screen behavior are described in the Zenbook Duo FAQ.
The panels look different in color
Compare the MyASUS Splendid modes for both panels, then check Windows color-profile and HDR settings. ASUS says a very slight color variation can be normal because the panels are viewed at different angles.

The main display flickers, shows artifacts, or has no image
Flicker, artifacts, blur, or a blank main internal panel while an external monitor works call for ASUS’s internal display troubleshooting guide. A computer that powers on to a black screen is a separate boot or no-display problem; follow ASUS’s black-screen troubleshooting guide instead of treating it as a second-screen setting issue.
