You do not need an LG soundbar to improve an LG TV’s sound: a third-party bar can work over HDMI ARC/eARC or another supported connection. For a compact setup, the Sonos Beam (2nd Gen) is a strong all-in-one choice; for full surround, consider the LG S95TR or Samsung HW-Q990F. Choose an LG bar if its model-specific features—such as WOW Orchestra or WOWCAST—matter to you, and verify compatibility with your exact TV before buying.

Best soundbars for LG TVs: quick picks

Soundbar Best for What to know
LG S95TR Premium LG-oriented surround 9.1.5-channel system with separate subwoofer and surround speakers; T3 lists 810 W and support for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and IMAX Enhanced. [T3 review]
Sonos Beam (2nd Gen) Compact all-in-one Three-channel bar with eARC and Dolby Atmos; no HDMI passthrough or included subwoofer. [T3 guide]
Denon DHT-S316 Budget 2.1-channel upgrade Includes a subwoofer, but lacks eARC and Dolby Atmos. [T3 guide]
LG USC9S Selected LG OLED installations Specialist fit with a bundled stand for certain OLED models; check the exact TV pairing. [T3 guide]
Samsung HW-Q990F High-end, brand-agnostic Atmos RTINGS’ 2026 top overall and Atmos pick; 11.1.4 channels with subwoofer and satellites. [RTINGS: best soundbars] [RTINGS: best Dolby Atmos soundbars]
JBL Bar 1000MK2 Atmos with flexible satellite placement Detachable, battery-powered satellites; RTINGS flags 4K/120Hz passthrough and latency limitations for gaming. [RTINGS: best Dolby Atmos soundbars]
LG Eclair SE6S Small all-in-one LG option Compact 3.0-channel design with eARC and Atmos; no separate subwoofer. Confirm the regional model suffix, as T3’s guide also uses “USE6.” [T3 guide]

These recommendations combine different kinds of evidence: T3’s LG-TV-specific guide was last updated 1 April 2026 and reflects an Australian retail context, while RTINGS’ 2026 lists are broader testing-based rankings. They are useful shortlists, not a single universal ranking. Prices and model availability vary by market, so check current local stock rather than relying on another region’s listings.

Which soundbar should you choose?

LG S95TR: a full surround system

T3’s premium LG-oriented pick is the S95TR, a system built around a soundbar, wireless subwoofer and surround speakers. Its guide gives the configuration as 9.1.5 channels and 810 W, and lists Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and IMAX Enhanced. It suits a room where you can accommodate the extra speakers and want an enveloping presentation; it is not a one-box solution. T3 reports that Atmos can sound enveloping when the soundtrack and room support it. [T3 guide]

LG’s newer S95AR is a relevant comparison if the S95TR is discounted or difficult to find. RTINGS describes the S95AR as a 9.1.4-channel 2025 flagship with WOWCAST and optional WOW Orchestra, and reports improved surround and height performance over the S95TR. Compare local prices and verify the TV pairing rather than assuming the older model is automatically better value. [RTINGS S95AR review]

Sonos Beam (2nd Gen): simple, compact sound

T3 recommends the Beam (2nd Gen) for most people in its LG TV guide. It has five drivers, three channels, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and eARC, and supports Dolby Atmos. Its balanced sound and compact setup make it an appealing choice when you do not want rear speakers or a separate subwoofer. The trade-offs are no HDMI passthrough and no included subwoofer; T3 describes it as a reasonable match for mid-size TVs up to around 65 inches. That screen-size guidance is T3’s recommendation, not a compatibility limit. [T3 guide]

Denon DHT-S316: a straightforward budget upgrade

The Denon is a 2.1-channel bar-and-subwoofer system with HDMI, optical, 3.5 mm, USB and Bluetooth 4.2 inputs, according to T3. It does not support eARC or Dolby Atmos, so it makes more sense for improving everyday TV sound than for building around immersive formats or advanced HDMI features. T3 praises its scale, definition and value, while noting that the treble could be better and the subwoofer can be provoked. [T3 guide]

LG USC9S: only for a verified OLED pairing

T3 describes the USC9S as a specialist installation for selected LG OLED TVs, with a bundled stand. Its guide discusses the C3, C4 and C5, and G4 and G5 families, and lists eARC, Dolby Atmos, 4K/120Hz passthrough and a separate subwoofer. Do not treat that list as a guarantee for every regional version or configuration: confirm the exact TV model and current compatibility information with LG. T3 also calls the bar expensive for its niche, and reports that WOW Orchestra did not work well in its initial evaluation; the review notes a subsequent LG software update intended to improve integration. Samsung HW-Q990F: high-end Atmos without requiring an LG bar

RTINGS names the HW-Q990F its top soundbar overall and its top Dolby Atmos soundbar in its 2026 guides. It is an 11.1.4-channel package with a discrete subwoofer and two satellite speakers, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support, and up-firing drivers. RTINGS describes it as powerful enough for larger rooms and says it offers better value than the newer Q990H for most people in its assessment; the Q990H adds features including Sound Elevation. In RTINGS’ comparison with LG’s S95AR, the Samsung gets louder and has more surround drivers, while the LG is a better fit for buyers specifically seeking wireless audio to an LG TV or TV-speaker integration. Samsung’s Q-Symphony is designed for compatible Samsung TVs; it is not an equivalent LG-TV feature. T3 names the older HW-Q990D as a high-end alternative and lists 4K/120Hz passthrough, two HDMI inputs, Atmos and DTS:X, but says it does not offer WOW Orchestra for LG. Consider the D only if local availability or pricing makes it compelling, and distinguish it from the newer Q990F. [RTINGS S95AR review] [T3 guide]

JBL Bar 1000MK2: detachable satellites, with gaming caveats

RTINGS identifies the JBL Bar 1000MK2 as a more affordable Dolby Atmos option and highlights its battery-powered detachable satellites, which make speaker placement less dependent on nearby power outlets. It does not pass through 4K at 120 Hz, and RTINGS reports higher audio latency across most connections. If you plan to route a gaming console or PC through the soundbar, those limitations may outweigh the placement flexibility. [RTINGS: best Dolby Atmos soundbars]

LG Eclair SE6S: a small all-in-one alternative

T3’s compact pick is the Eclair SE6S, a 3.0-channel bar with eARC, Dolby Atmos, HDMI, optical, USB, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth but no separate subwoofer. T3 likes its small footprint and LG integration, while noting that midrange sound can get lost and that it lacks voice-assistant support. The guide uses both “SE6S” and “USE6,” so check the exact suffix and regional model before purchasing. [T3 guide]

Do you need an LG soundbar for an LG TV?

No. A third-party soundbar can connect to an LG TV through a supported HDMI ARC/eARC port, optical output, or another compatible connection. Your choice of brand does not by itself prevent ordinary TV audio playback; the TV’s outputs, the bar’s inputs and the formats both devices support determine what will work. What Hi-Fi?’s LG TV guidance likewise confirms that buyers can choose a non-LG soundbar. [What Hi-Fi? best LG TVs]

An LG bar can add proprietary integration. LG says WOW Orchestra uses the TV speakers and soundbar together; WOWCAST Built-In offers a wireless connection to compatible LG TVs, with LG claiming support for up to 12 channels of wireless lossless Dolby Atmos and wireless DTS:X; and WOW Interface provides on-screen status and control for the bar, rear speakers and subwoofer. These are LG’s feature descriptions, not proof that every TV and soundbar supports each feature. Check exact model and year compatibility on LG’s [soundbar feature page] before treating a feature as part of your setup.

How to match a soundbar to your LG TV

1. Check the connection and audio formats

Look up your TV’s manual for its available HDMI ARC/eARC port, optical output and supported audio formats, then compare those with the soundbar’s specifications. ARC, eARC, optical and ordinary HDMI are not interchangeable for every format or feature. For example, T3 lists eARC for the Beam (2nd Gen) but not for the Denon DHT-S316. If you need Dolby Atmos or DTS:X, confirm the complete signal path supports the format rather than relying only on a logo on the bar. [T3 guide]

2. Decide between a single bar and separate speakers

A one-box soundbar such as the Beam or Eclair takes less space and avoids finding places for rear speakers. Systems such as the S95TR and Q990F add a subwoofer and satellites, which can create a more enveloping setup but require more floor space, wiring or placement decisions. Match the system to the room you can actually arrange, not only the channel count.

3. Account for room size, bass and dialogue

Consider your listening distance, whether the room opens into another space, and how much bass you want. RTINGS characterizes the Q990F as capable in larger rooms; T3 positions the Beam as a compact option and the Denon as a budget improvement. If dialogue clarity is the priority, look for reviews that address speech specifically and consider whether a subwoofer’s placement and level suit your room. [RTINGS: best soundbars] [T3 guide]

4. Check gaming passthrough before routing a console through the bar

If your console or PC will connect to the soundbar first, verify 4K/120Hz passthrough and latency for your intended connection. The JBL Bar 1000MK2’s passthrough and latency limitations are a specific caution from RTINGS. You can also compare a direct-to-TV connection with audio returned to the soundbar, but confirm your TV and bar support the formats and features you need in that arrangement. [RTINGS: best Dolby Atmos soundbars]

5. Treat brand integration as a bonus, not a compatibility requirement

WOW Orchestra, WOWCAST and WOW Interface can make a compatible LG soundbar more convenient, but they are model-dependent benefits rather than prerequisites for connecting a bar. Verify the exact pairing with LG if these features are decisive; otherwise, choose based on the connection, formats, size and speaker layout that fit your setup. [LG soundbar features]

6. Compare local versions and current value

Model suffixes, availability and pricing vary by country. T3’s LG guide uses an Australian retail context, so its local prices should not be treated as current U.S. prices. Check that the product sold in your market has the same connections and feature set discussed in reviews before comparing cost. [T3 guide]
