Start with Google’s Pixel 7a repair-program eligibility and registration process. It checks your specific phone and shows which options, if any, are available in your country and warranty situation. Not every Pixel 7a is affected or eligible, and a prior repair does not guarantee compensation.
Check your Pixel 7a’s eligibility first
- Confirm the model. On the phone, open Settings → About phone → Model.
- Open Google’s program page and start eligibility/registration. Follow the prompts for your device. The available choices depend on the individual phone, country, warranty status and program terms.
- Review every option before selecting one. Google says an appeasement choice cannot be changed. Accepting a cash payment or Google Store discount also removes eligibility for a free battery replacement through this program.
Google published the Extended Repair Program for Pixel 7a on April 23, 2025. Its stated coverage period is three years from the original retail purchase date. The program is for individual end-user consumers who purchased a device in a listed location; the eligibility flow, rather than the model name alone, determines what is available to you.

What symptoms should you look for?
Google says certain Pixel 7a phones may experience unexpected battery swelling; it does not say all units are affected. Possible signs include a bulging battery or back cover that is separating, unusually fast battery drain, or a phone that will not charge.
- If the phone shows swelling symptoms or has other physical damage, such as a damaged enclosure or cracked screen, Google recommends that you stop using it.
- If it works normally and shows no swelling symptoms, Google says you do not need to stop using it; you can still check the program.
- Do not open a swollen phone as a routine troubleshooting step. Follow local requirements for handling, transporting and disposing of batteries.
What free battery repair can Google provide?
An eligible and impacted Pixel 7a may receive one battery replacement at no charge, subject to an eligibility check, physical inspection, location and battery supply. Google may find other damage during inspection. Liquid damage, cracked display or cover glass, or other damage may prevent the free battery replacement or require a separate repair fee; Google says it will provide a cost estimate before repair.

Google lists walk-in battery replacement in the United States, India, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Singapore, Australia and France. Mail-in battery replacement is listed for the United States and India. These are repair-service locations, not the full list of places where consumers may qualify for the program; actual service depends on local availability and battery supply.
The broader purchase-location list in Google’s terms includes Australia, Canada, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, the United States (including island territories and Puerto Rico), the United Kingdom, Switzerland and EEA countries. A listed purchase location does not by itself mean that a particular phone qualifies or that a battery-replacement method is available there.
What compensation or other options might appear?
Depending on the phone’s eligibility, location and warranty status, Google may show a cash payment or Google Store phone discount instead of repair. The figures on Google’s April 23, 2025 program page are possible options, not guaranteed offers:

Check the value and terms actually displayed for your device. Google says that after you choose an appeasement option, you cannot change it; choosing cash or a hardware discount ends eligibility for a free battery replacement under this program. Compare the displayed offer with the repair route before accepting.

How to check for a refund after an earlier repair
If you paid an authorized repair partner for an out-of-warranty Pixel 7a battery replacement before January 30, 2025, use Google’s eligibility and registration process to see whether a refund option is offered. The possible refund is $200 USD converted to local currency. Having paid for a repair alone does not establish eligibility: Google must also determine whether the device and repair qualify.
What if the registration needs extra review?
Google says cases requiring additional review may take up to three weeks for a support update. That is a stated maximum for some review cases, not a promised turnaround for every registration.
Can you replace the battery yourself?
Google identifies self-repair parts through its iFixit partnership, but recommends self-repair only for people with relevant technical expertise. Check the program first if you are seeking a covered repair, and verify exact Pixel 7a compatibility and current parts details before purchasing anything. A self-repair should not be treated as a substitute for confirming program eligibility.
