Connect the TV’s HDMI port labeled ARC or eARC/ARC to the soundbar’s HDMI output labeled TV ARC/eARC. Then set the TV’s audio output to HDMI ARC/eARC and choose the matching TV/ARC input on the soundbar. Both devices must support ARC or eARC for this connection to work.
Before you connect the devices
- Check that the TV and soundbar both support HDMI ARC or eARC. A standard HDMI port without an ARC/eARC label does not necessarily carry audio back to the soundbar.
- Identify the labeled ports before plugging in the cable. The TV port may say ARC or eARC/ARC; the soundbar port may say HDMI OUT (TV ARC/eARC) or use similar wording. Port names and availability vary by model.
- Use a cable that meets the requirements in the manuals for your TV and soundbar. Sony recommends an authorized Premium High Speed HDMI cable in its connection guide, but that guidance does not establish that every ARC/eARC setup requires a premium cable.
Connect the TV and soundbar
- With the devices’ port labels in view, connect the TV’s HDMI ARC or eARC/ARC port to the soundbar’s HDMI OUT (TV ARC/eARC) port. Do not use an arbitrary HDMI port on either device.
- Turn on the TV and soundbar.
- On the TV, open the sound or audio settings and choose HDMI ARC or eARC as the sound output.
- On the soundbar, choose the corresponding TV, ARC, or TV Audio input or function.
- If the devices provide an ARC/eARC or HDMI-CEC option, enable it or set it to Auto as the manuals direct. Samsung calls its HDMI-CEC feature Anynet+.
- Play TV content and check that sound comes through the soundbar. If menu names differ, follow the model-specific manuals; LG notes that manufacturers use different setting methods and menu names.
For brand-specific setup examples, see LG’s ARC instructions, Sony’s audio-system connection guide, and LG’s additional connection instructions. Exact menu paths depend on the device model.
If there is no sound
Confirm ARC/eARC support and port choice
Check the specifications or manuals for both products. ARC/eARC will not activate if only one device supports it. Confirm that the cable connects the TV’s designated ARC/eARC port to the soundbar’s designated HDMI output, rather than to another HDMI port.
Check the cable and selected inputs
- Reseat the HDMI cable at both ends.
- Check that the TV sound output is set to HDMI ARC/eARC.
- Check that the soundbar is set to its matching TV/ARC input or function.
- Where available, check whether ARC/eARC or a TV Audio Input option should be set to On or Auto for your model.
Sony’s connection guidance and no-sound troubleshooting steps cover these checks. Menu labels and behavior can differ by model, so consult both manufacturers’ manuals if the connection still does not work.

Use another connection if ARC/eARC is unavailable
If one device does not support ARC/eARC, an optical cable or another supported audio connection may be an alternative. It is a fallback connection, not ARC/eARC support; check both manuals for compatible inputs and setup instructions.

For setup, begin with the port labels and the features listed for your particular TV and soundbar. Do not assume every ARC/eARC combination supports the same audio formats or that switching to eARC will produce a perceptible improvement. Check the exact model specifications and manuals for the audio formats and functions your devices support. Samsung’s eARC and Anynet+ explanation is one manufacturer reference; support and settings can still vary by model.
