You can promote a music tour without relying on Instagram by combining a few channels that do different jobs: use social platforms for discovery, event listings for concert information, an artist website as a stable home for dates and tickets, and email to reach fans who have opted in. Choose two or three social networks your audience actually uses, rather than trying to post everywhere.
Which channels can replace Instagram for tour promotion?
There is no single best Instagram substitute for every artist. The Independent Society of Musicians’ March 2026 guide advises musicians to focus on two or three social networks where their audience is active. It names Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok as options, but does not establish that any one platform will outperform the others for a particular tour. Read the ISM’s social media guide for musicians.
| Channel | Best fit for tour promotion | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Event pages, local community sharing, and updates for existing fans. | The ISM describes it as useful for fan engagement and event promotion. Its value depends on whether your fans use it. | |
| YouTube | Longer videos such as live performances, tour diaries, rehearsals, and behind-the-scenes footage. | Bandsintown says its event data can support concert listings on YouTube Official Artist Channels, videos, and Shorts. This distribution is a vendor-described feature and may change. |
| TikTok | Short-form clips and tour announcements suited to the format. | The ISM includes it among possible musician channels; the source does not show that it will deliver better reach or ticket sales for a given artist. |
| Bandsintown or Songkick | Concert discovery and tour-date notifications. | These services complement social networks rather than replacing every promotional task. Bandsintown also documents artist tools for event promotion and fan signups. |
| Direct announcements to fans who have chosen to hear from you. | Use clear opt-in and, where available, tailor show announcements by location. Email tools do not guarantee inbox placement or ticket sales. | |
| Artist website | A reliable central page for current dates, venues, and ticket links. | It gives fans a destination you control instead of relying only on a social feed. Event tools can be embedded or synced to some artist-site services. |
Use event listings and a website as the tour’s stable destination
Social posts can point people toward a show, but dates and ticket links should also live somewhere fans can return to. Keep a current tour page on the artist website, then link to it from social profiles, video descriptions, and email announcements.
Bandsintown for Artists documents an Events Promotion Page, Smart Links, email tools, signup forms, widgets, and QR codes. It also lists integrations for syncing events to Bandzoogle and connecting with Mailchimp. Bandsintown describes its Events Promotion Webpage as free and says it is intended to help promote shows and facilitate ticket sales; that is the company’s description, not evidence that sales are guaranteed. Bandsintown also says its event data is distributed to services including Spotify, YouTube, Google, Apple, and Shazam. Its help information describes YouTube concert listings and Google music-event listings as uses of that data. Because this is a platform-specific vendor statement, check the current availability and destinations before depending on it. Bandsintown’s event-distribution information.
Build a practical promotion workflow
- Choose one accurate source of event details. Maintain the date, venue, ticket or RSVP URL, and any relevant door or age information in one place so updates do not drift across channels.
- Publish events to a concert-discovery service. Add the resulting event page or Smart Link to your website and social profiles. Bandsintown and Songkick are options named by the ISM for tour-date discovery and notifications.
- Select two or three social channels. Base the choice on where your fans engage and which formats you can keep up with, following the ISM’s March 2026 guidance rather than trying to maintain every network.
- Adapt each announcement to its channel. Use short clips for short-video feeds, longer performance or tour material on YouTube, and clear event information in local communities where your fans gather.
- Invite fans to opt in to email. Use your site, event pages, or signup forms, and send relevant dates to fans by location when your email tools allow it. Bandsintown documents signup and email features as well as a Mailchimp integration.
- Connect physical promotion to the same destination. Put a QR code on posters or other tour materials so it leads to the current event page or tour schedule; Bandsintown lists QR-code tools for artists.
- Check the details before each announcement. Open ticket links and event listings yourself, and update changes or cancellations promptly wherever the event appears.
Choose a mix based on what your tour needs
Think of the channels as complementary rather than interchangeable. Social networks can introduce the tour to people and keep existing followers engaged; event services can make dates easier to discover; email can reach consenting subscribers directly; and the artist website can serve as the central reference for current information. Prioritize the channels that match your audience and the content you can sustain.
