To control who can see your PlayStation friends list, change the “Who can see your friends” setting. On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy > View and Customise Your Privacy Settings, then find that control and choose an audience. The change is tied to your account and is reflected across your devices.
Change friends-list visibility on PS5
- Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy.
- Select View and Customise Your Privacy Settings to edit individual controls.
- Under the information controls, find Who can see your friends and select the audience you want.
The available audience choices may depend on the account and may not be identical in every region or software version. Follow the options shown on your console.
Use a privacy preset or change only this setting?
PS5 also offers preset profiles: Social and Open, Team Player, Friend Focused, and Solo and Focused. You can find these through Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy by choosing Adjust Privacy Settings by Choosing a Profile. A preset changes broader profile and communication privacy, so use View and Customise Your Privacy Settings if your goal is specifically to adjust friends-list visibility.

Open Account Management > Privacy settings, select the relevant feature, and edit it. See PlayStation’s privacy settings guide for the account-management route.

On PS4
Open Settings > Account Management > Privacy Settings, then select the feature you want to change. PlayStation’s official guide lists this PS4 route alongside the PS5 instructions.
Does the change apply to all devices?
Yes. PlayStation Support states: “Privacy settings are tied to your account. If you change the privacy settings for your account, those changes will be reflected on all devices.” You do not need to repeat the change on each device signed in to that account. What if you cannot change the setting?
If the account is a child account, a family manager, parent, or guardian may manage its privacy settings and decide which settings the child is allowed to change. The available controls depend on the parental-control permissions for that account. See PlayStation’s Safety for players guide.

Who can see your friends is a specific visibility control. PlayStation also notes that privacy settings affect search results and determine who can send friend requests; those are related privacy concerns, but they are not the same setting as friends-list visibility.
