There is no single Dyson V8-versus-Shark runtime or performance winner: “Dyson V8” and “Shark cordless” each cover different products, and published maximum runtimes are not directly comparable unless the model, mode, and measurement setup match. Start with the exact model and bundle, then compare runtime conditions, weight, battery, filtration, cleaner head, and included tools.
Which Dyson V8 and Shark models are you comparing?
“Dyson V8” can refer to the original V8 or the newer V8 Cyclone. Shark’s cordless range also includes distinct models, with different specifications and package contents. This comparison uses the original Dyson V8 and Shark Vertex Pro IZ662H as named examples; it does not represent every Shark cordless vacuum. The V8 Cyclone is listed separately because its specifications differ from the original V8.

Does the Shark cordless vacuum run longer than the Dyson V8?
The listed maximums are 40 minutes for the original Dyson V8 and 60 minutes for the Vertex Pro IZ662H, but they do not establish that Shark lasts longer in ordinary floor-cleaning use. Shark’s 60-minute claim is measured at the handheld unit in ECO mode; Dyson’s V8 listing says runtime varies with operating mode, floor type, dust level, and attachments. Those unlike conditions prevent a reliable whole-home runtime verdict from the figures alone.

#1 Best Overall
- Lightweight for quick, versatile cordless cleaning.
- Up to 40 minutes of fade-free Dyson power.¹
- Power trigger helps maximize energy efficiency, only using power where you need it.
- Choose between two cleaning modes for the right power where you need it.
- Motorbar cleaner head deep cleans all floor types. De-tangles wrapped long hair and pet hair as you clean.
Shark’s Vertex IZ462H information further illustrates why model and mode matter: it gives separate runtime figures for handheld-only and floor-cleaning modes and says boost runtime is shorter. Do not transfer its figures—or the IZ662H’s—to another Shark model. [Shark Vertex IZ462H product information]
Which is lighter: the original Dyson V8 or Vertex Pro?
Dyson lists the original V8 at 5.58 lb and Shark lists the Vertex Pro IZ662H at 8.82 lb. These model-specific figures suggest the V8 has the lower listed weight, but confirm that each figure describes a comparable configuration before treating the difference as a precise handling comparison. They say nothing about the weight of other Shark cordless models.
Does the Shark cordless vacuum have a removable battery?
The Vertex Pro IZ662H product page specifies a removable battery. The original Dyson V8 page describes a six-cell lithium-ion battery but does not characterize it as removable or swappable. Dyson does describe a swappable seven-cell battery on the separate V8 Cyclone model, so do not apply that feature to the original V8. [Dyson V8 Cyclone product information]

- Powerful Dyson suction and run time to deep clean your home. Without the cord.
- Up to 60 minutes of fade-free Dyson power.¹
- Power trigger helps maximize energy efficiency, only using power where you need it.
- Choose between three cleaning modes for the right power where you need it.
- Motorbar cleaner head deep cleans all floor types. De-tangles wrapped long hair and pet hair as you clean.
A removable or swappable battery can be relevant if you want to exchange a depleted pack, but the feature alone does not establish longer cleaning time, battery life, or compatibility with replacement packs. Verify compatibility for the precise model before buying a battery.

Dyson lists the V8 Cyclone at up to 60 minutes of runtime, 150 Air Watts, 5.74 lb, and four-hour charging, with a swappable seven-cell battery. Its stated filtration claim is that it captures 99.99% of microscopic particles as small as 0.3 microns. These are V8 Cyclone specifications, not original V8 specifications; confirm the exact local listing and SKU. [Dyson V8 Cyclone product information]
What else should you compare before buying?
Cleaner head and supplied tools
The cited original V8 listing describes a Motorbar cleaner head and attachments, but Dyson V8 packages can vary. Shark’s included head and accessories depend on the exact model and bundle. Check the contents for the specific listing you plan to buy rather than assuming all packages include the same tools.

- Versatile and cordless for whole-home deep cleaning.
- 60% more power.¹ Up to 60 minutes of run time.²
- Three power modes. Auto mode for everyday cleaning tasks—the optimal balance of power and run time to preserve the lifespan of your battery. Eco mode for maximum run time. Boost mode for intensive spot cleaning.
- LCD screen shows power modes, maintenance alerts, and remaining run time to the second.
Flooring, pets, and stairs
For carpet, hard floors, pet hair, or stairs, compare the cleaner head and handheld tools supplied with each exact bundle against the jobs you need to do. The manufacturer figures cited here do not establish comparative cleaning performance on those surfaces.
Filtration
The original V8 page describes whole-machine filtration, while the Vertex Pro page specifies a post-motor HEPA filter. The V8 Cyclone page makes a separate particle-size capture claim. These are differently worded manufacturer descriptions; they do not establish equivalent test methods or prove which model filters better in a direct comparison.

- For lighter handling: compare model-specific weights on the same configuration basis, especially if you will carry the vacuum on stairs or use it as a handheld.
- For longer sessions: compare runtime in the mode and configuration you expect to use, not just the largest advertised maximum. Consider whether the exact model has a removable or swappable battery.
- For mixed floors or pet hair: compare the included cleaner head and tools in the exact bundle, and look for independent cleaning tests if performance is the deciding factor.
- For filtration needs: read the precise filtration claim for the model in question; do not assume differently described systems are equivalent.
- For the best value: compare the actual package contents and current purchase terms, not just the brand name or product-family label.
The manufacturer product information cited here does not provide a controlled Dyson V8-versus-Vertex Pro cleaning test, comparative durability results, repairability evidence, lifetime cost, or long-term battery degradation data. The published figures therefore support a specification comparison, not a conclusion about which vacuum cleans better or lasts longer over years.
