Start by checking how much space your device actually has free, then remove or offload items you can safely restore. A game’s required space varies by title, device and updates, so check its current store listing and any in-game download prompt before deciding how much room to make.
Check available storage before deleting anything
On Android, open Settings > Storage. The screen shows how space is being used by category, though labels and menu paths vary by manufacturer and Android version. On iPhone or iPad, open Settings > General > [device] Storage to see app usage and Apple’s recommendations.
Use these figures as general guidance, not as a game-install guarantee: Google Play says less than 1 GB available may indicate low storage when troubleshooting downloads, while Apple advises keeping at least 1 GB free to avoid slowdowns. Neither figure establishes how much space a particular game needs. Google Play’s download troubleshooting guidance and Apple’s performance guidance provide the platform context.
Remove files you can replace or restore
Review downloads and offline media
Look for downloaded files, offline movies, music and other media you no longer need. On Android, the Files app can show file categories and sort items by name, date or size; delete only files you recognize. For offline media, remove the download from the app that saved it where appropriate. See Google’s instructions for finding and deleting Android files.

Confirm backups before removing photos or videos
If you use Google Photos, verify that backup has finished and that you are signed into the right account before removing device copies. Google’s Android guidance explains how to free up device space while keeping backed-up photos accessible online: Free up storage on your Android device. On either platform, back up personal files before deleting their local copies; an unconfirmed or incomplete backup is not a safe substitute for the original.
Free space by removing apps carefully
Android: uninstall or archive apps
Uninstall apps you no longer use. On supported devices and apps, Google Play’s archiving feature removes the app software but retains personal data and leaves its icon so you can download the app again if it remains available. Availability depends on device and Play support. Details are in Google’s guidance on managing unused apps.

- Note: Make sure your smartphone is equipped with OTG function and need to open OTG function in Settings when you plug memory stick, then you can transfer easily data bewteen different devices
iPhone and iPad: offload or delete
In Settings > General > [device] Storage, you can offload an app to remove its software while retaining documents and data, or delete it to remove the app and its related data. Before deleting a game, confirm that its progress is linked to an account or cloud save. Retaining app data through archiving or offloading does not guarantee that every game’s progress is preserved locally or can be restored.
Clear cache only when it is appropriate
On Android, clearing an app’s cache removes temporary data; Google notes, “Some apps may be slow the next time you open them.” Clearing storage is different: it permanently removes all app data. Prefer the app’s own download or data-management controls when available, and do not clear a game’s storage unless you are willing to lose its local data. Use external storage only for supported file management
Android SD cards
Some Android devices let a supported SD card be formatted as internal or adoptable storage, which can hold apps. Formatting can erase the card and may tie it to that device, so back it up and check the phone’s own supported options first. A card formatted as portable storage is for files, not app installation; Google’s guidance says, “You can’t install apps on the SD card,” specifically for portable storage. USB drives and Apple external storage
On supported Android phones, Files by Google can move or copy files to a USB storage device; check that the phone’s port and drive are compatible. The drive can help move personal files off the phone, but it is not established as a game-install destination. See Files by Google’s USB storage instructions.

Compatible connectors or adapters and supported apps let iPhone users access external drives and memory cards for file management. This does not mean games can be installed to external storage. See Apple’s guide to connecting external storage to iPhone.

Retry the installation and troubleshoot if it still fails
- Recheck free space in the device’s Storage screen after cleanup.
- Check the game’s current store listing and any download prompt inside the game. An initial download figure may not include additional resources downloaded after launch, and the required space can vary with the game, device and updates.
- If the install still fails, check network and app-store troubleshooting steps, restart the device if appropriate, and consult the manufacturer’s instructions for its model-specific storage controls. Google Play’s basic download troubleshooting steps cover common installation problems.
