Sometimes—but it depends on the MMO and on what you mean by “same outfit.” A game may share appearance unlocks across an account while keeping actual gear, saved outfit slots, or templates tied to individual characters. Check those rules before transferring an item or buying a cosmetic.
What “sharing an outfit” can mean
These four systems are related, but they are not interchangeable:
- Appearance unlock: The game records a skin or style in a collection after you obtain an item or unlock a cosmetic. Other eligible characters may be able to apply it.
- Outfit or costume unlock: A complete appearance becomes selectable for eligible characters, without requiring each character to own the original gear.
- Item transfer: The physical equipment moves between characters. Whether that is possible depends on its binding rules and the game’s transfer systems.
- Saved look or template: A character’s chosen skins, dyes, and combinations are saved together. That configuration may remain specific to that character even if the component appearances are shared.
In other words, seeing a skin in a shared collection does not necessarily let you move the original item or copy a complete saved look to an alt.
How the rules work in specific MMOs
Guild Wars 2
Guild Wars 2’s Wardrobe announcement says the system makes it possible to customize looks and share cosmetic items across characters on an account. It also states that Gem Store outfits unlock for all characters on the account. These are appearance unlocks, not a promise that every equipment item can be transferred or every skin suits every character.

Actual equipment has separate binding rules: the Guild Wars 2 Wiki’s account-bound reference describes account-bound equipment as usable by other characters on the account, while soulbound items are restricted to one character. The game’s outfit system also distinguishes a full-body outfit from skins applied to individual equipment.
Fashion Templates illustrate another distinction. According to the Guild Wars 2 support article, extra Fashion Template slots unlock account-wide, but each character’s saved styles and dyes remain specific to that character. Shared access to an appearance therefore does not automatically copy the entire saved look.

World of Warcraft
Blizzard’s Legion patch notes describe unlocked transmog appearances as account-wide and available to other characters that can equip the relevant item. Blizzard’s Warbands overview describes collection sharing across a Warband within one region; class and armor eligibility still affect which characters can use an appearance.
Saved outfits and transmog behavior can change with patches. For current interface behavior and any costs, check the in-game tooltips and Blizzard’s updated transmog system article.

The Elder Scrolls Online
Official forum discussions distinguish shared access to learned motifs and colors from each character’s own outfit slots. A character may be able to build an outfit using learned styles without inheriting another character’s saved slot as a ready-made copy. The distinction is discussed in the outfit station discussion and the thread “Question: Are Outfits Account-wide?”. If a shared saved slot matters to a purchase or plan, verify the current options at an outfit station in-game.

- Find the scope of the appearance collection. Check whether the game labels it account-wide, character-specific, Warband-wide, or something else.
- Check the item’s binding. Look for account-bound, character-bound or soulbound status, and confirm whether the item can go through a bank or shared inventory.
- Confirm the other character is eligible. Class, armor type or weight, race, faction, level, and equipment slot can limit which appearances a character can use.
- Identify what the cosmetic unlocks. It could be a full outfit for eligible characters, an appearance applied to individual gear, or a one-character item.
- Check saved looks and dyes separately. A shared skin collection does not establish that saved outfit slots, templates, or dye choices are shared.
- Look for an application cost. Changing the appearance may require in-game currency or a cosmetic charge, depending on the game and its current rules.
For a particular MMO, consult its current official support or patch documentation as well as the item tooltip: the answer can vary by edition, platform, region, and update.
