Choose a full-size arcade cabinet if you have a permanent floor spot and want a tall machine with roomier controls. Choose a mini only after checking what “mini” means: it could be a compact floor-standing upright or a tabletop arcade with a much smaller screen and control panel. Compare the exact dimensions, games, controls, and placement—not just the category name.
What “mini arcade machine” can mean
“Mini” is not a single size or format. Some mini machines are still floor-standing cabinets; others are countertop units intended for a desk, counter, or sturdy shelf. For example, AtGames lists its Legends Ultimate Mini HD at 19.4 × 19.3 × 60.9 inches, making it a compact upright rather than a desktop toy. Arcade1Up’s catalog includes countertop Countercade and Counter Series products.
That distinction changes the practical choice: a compact upright saves floor width but still needs floor space and a standing-height placement, while a countertop machine uses a surface and trades cabinet scale for a smaller screen and controls.

Measure space before choosing
Start with the product’s listed footprint and height, then check the route from delivery point to its final location. Measure doorways, turns, stairs, and any narrow passage the cabinet must pass through. Allow room for players to stand or sit comfortably and operate the controls; the cabinet’s footprint alone does not describe the space needed for play.
A full-size Legends Ultimate is listed at 66.44 inches tall with a 29.53 × 21.65-inch footprint. The Legends Ultimate Mini HD is listed at 60.9 inches tall and 19.4 × 19.3 inches across its footprint. The Mini is narrower, but still over five feet tall. For a countertop model, measure the surface’s usable depth and confirm that it is sturdy and stable enough for the machine and play.

Match the controls and games to how you play
A large game count does not tell you whether the machine has the titles you want or the controls those titles need. Check the named games and panel layout for the exact model. Standard joysticks and buttons suit some games; others may depend on a trackball, spinner, steering control, or light gun. AtGames lists a trackball and two spinners on the full-size Legends Ultimate, but that is a feature of that example—not a universal cabinet specification.
Also compare player count and display orientation. AtGames describes the full-size Legends Ultimate as having a two-player panel, while its Mini HD product page lists a rotatable display. If those features matter for particular games or players, verify the included setup rather than assuming it carries across a product family.

Account for accessories and ongoing features
Include any necessary add-ons in the fit and budget decision. Arcade1Up says the Ms. Pac-Man Classic SE’s adjustable riser is sold separately; an optional riser can change the machine’s finished height as well as its total cost. Confirm compatibility before buying an accessory.
Connectivity does not by itself establish that a particular online feature, subscription, streaming option, or expandable library is included indefinitely. Which type should you choose?
- Choose a full-size upright if you have a permanent floor location, enough room for the machine and access route, and want a taller cabinet with an expansive control surface.
- Choose a compact upright if floor width is limited but you still want a standing cabinet. Check height as carefully as width; compact does not necessarily mean short.
- Choose a countertop mini if the intended location is a desk, counter, or shelf and its smaller screen and controls suit the games and play sessions you have in mind.
- Choose by game and control requirements if you are buying for a particular franchise or genre. Confirm the actual titles and the controls required to play them well.
Check these details before ordering
- Find the exact model’s current manufacturer listing and confirm the dimensions, screen, control layout, and included games.
- Measure the machine’s final location and the full route it must travel to get there.
- For tabletop machines, check the surface depth and stability; for uprights, consider the room needed to stand or sit and play.
