Share the Chess.com or Lichess profile that best shows the chess activity you want professional contacts to see—and inspect its public-facing profile and game history before posting. Chess.com supports optional profile details such as an “About Me” section and over-the-board rating; Lichess can show ratings, puzzles, studies, community activity, and game history. Neither service is established as inherently better for LinkedIn.
How to choose between Chess.com and Lichess
Base the choice on three things: how you want to present your chess, what visitors can see on that account, and whether you want to share a profile or a particular game. Your existing account is often the better choice if it is current, clearly identifies you as intended, and contains activity you are comfortable showing.
- Choose Chess.com if your account is well maintained and you want optional profile fields, including a short bio and an over-the-board rating.
- Choose Lichess if you want visitors to see a broader range of chess activity, such as puzzle progress, studies, forum participation, and game history.
- Share neither profile yet if the visible identity or activity does not support the point you are making. Review the account first, or share a specific game instead.
There is no evidence establishing that LinkedIn audiences recognize one service more, or that links from one platform get more clicks. Pick for the substance of your account, not an assumed LinkedIn advantage.
What a Chess.com profile can show
Chess.com says profile information is optional. Its Help Center describes editable fields including first and last name, location, country, an over-the-board rating, and an “About Me” section; profile details are visible to members who visit. The platform states: “Filling out your profile information is optional, so you can remain completely anonymous if you prefer.” See Chess.com’s profile instructions.

This makes Chess.com a reasonable fit when you want to add a concise introduction or chosen details to an established account. If you include an over-the-board rating, make clear what it represents; an online rating should not be presented as an over-the-board credential.
Social controls do not necessarily hide your chess record
Chess.com documents controls for social interactions, such as requests, challenges, and who can view a friends list. Separately, its legal FAQ says profiles and game histories are publicly visible, and that game activity—including results, moves, timestamps, and ratings—can be accessible as part of the public chess record. Check the account as visitors will see it; interaction settings should not be treated as a guarantee that the underlying record is private. See Chess.com’s privacy information and its legal FAQ.

What a Lichess profile can show
Lichess profile documentation lists ratings across variants, puzzle rating and progress, studies, forum posts and community activity, and detailed game history. That breadth can be useful if the point of your LinkedIn post is your ongoing chess practice or contributions—not just a single rating. Review the profile and visible activity before sharing. See Lichess profile documentation.
Lichess describes itself in its Terms of Service as “free/libre open source software, with the express charitable purpose of promoting and encouraging the play and study of chess.” That describes the service; it does not mean a Lichess profile is automatically more private or more professionally suitable. The Lichess Terms of Service, modified August 1, 2026, distinguish public and private account contexts for titled players and generally restrict account sharing subject to stated exceptions. Those provisions matter particularly to titled players or unusual account arrangements.

Read privacy information with its date in mind
Lichess’s privacy policy, last updated March 16, 2022, describes optional profile details and the retention of usernames and non-personal game metadata for game history and ranking. Do not assume that hiding statistics hides all game activity. Because the policy is dated, check its current wording before relying on it for a time-sensitive privacy decision.
Share a profile link or a game link?
A profile link is a lasting pointer to your account. A game link is more focused: use it when a LinkedIn post discusses a particular game, lesson, or demonstration. It gives readers a concrete example without asking them to explore your broader profile.

What the evidence does not establish
Platform documentation can describe profile features and published privacy terms, but it does not answer which site LinkedIn contacts will recognize, which link will attract more clicks, or exactly how LinkedIn will render a link today. Those are not reliable grounds for declaring either profile the universal winner.
