To join an Auracast broadcast, you need a compatible receiver—such as LE Audio headphones that explicitly support Auracast—and a way to find the broadcast. On supported Android devices, Google documents joining by scanning a broadcast QR code; Samsung LE Audio devices also have a broadcast-discovery menu. The official sources cited here do not establish an iPhone joining procedure, so iPhone compatibility and steps must be confirmed for the specific device.

What you need to join an Auracast broadcast

Auracast is Bluetooth broadcast audio: a transmitter sends one or more audio streams for compatible receivers to tune in to. An assistant scans for available broadcasts, shows them to the listener, and supplies the selected receiver with the information needed to join. That assistant may be part of a phone’s operating system or an app; some receivers can scan for broadcasts themselves, so a phone is not required in every setup. Bluetooth SIG likens choosing a broadcast to selecting a Wi-Fi network. Bluetooth SIG: How Auracast works

  • A broadcast must be available. Someone nearby needs to be transmitting one.
  • Your listening device must receive Auracast. Look for explicit Auracast receiving support on the exact headphone, earbud, hearing-aid, or other receiver model.
  • If you are using a phone to find the broadcast, the phone and software must support that assistant function. The documented Android routes below are device-specific.

Bluetooth version numbers alone do not establish compatibility. Bluetooth SIG describes Auracast support in terms of specified features introduced in Bluetooth Core Specification 5.2 and the Public Broadcast Profile within LE Audio. Even a product described as LE Audio-compatible is not necessarily an Auracast receiver. Whether an existing device can be upgraded depends on its underlying capabilities and its supplier’s product plans. Bluetooth SIG Auracast FAQ

Join on Android with a QR code

Google’s Android and Pixel help pages document a QR-code route for supported devices. Connect your LE Audio headphones before scanning; the Android phone must support LE Audio, and the headphones must be LE Audio accessories.

On Pixel, audio-sharing settings are described under Connected devices → Connection preferences → Audio sharing, or through Quick Settings. Labels and availability can vary by model and software version. Can you join Auracast on an iPhone?

The official sources cited here do not establish which iPhone models, iOS releases, apps, or accessories can scan for and join Auracast broadcasts. Bluetooth SIG’s general description says an assistant may be an operating-system feature or third-party app, but that does not confirm support on a particular iPhone. Do not assume that the Android QR steps work on iPhone or that ordinary Bluetooth support is enough. Check current Apple and accessory-manufacturer documentation for the specific phone, software, and receiver before relying on an iPhone joining method.

Check whether your headphones can receive Auracast

Check the manufacturer’s specification for the exact product and look specifically for Auracast receiving support. Bluetooth pairing, a Bluetooth version number, or a general LE Audio claim does not by itself confirm that the headphones can join broadcasts. Bluetooth SIG’s Find an Auracast Product directory can help identify listed products and roles, but the SIG says listings are informational and availability can change. Confirm the feature and current availability with the manufacturer.

Where broadcasts may be available

Bluetooth SIG describes public-location possibilities such as hearing audio from otherwise silent televisions in airports, gyms, and waiting rooms, or listening to tour audio at museums and attractions. These are use cases, not confirmation that a particular venue has installed Auracast. A venue must deploy a transmitter and make a suitable broadcast available. For public transmissions, the SIG recommends Standard Quality Public Broadcast Audio to broaden receiver compatibility. Bluetooth SIG: Auracast for public locations
