If a Figma plugin will not load or run, first check that you launched it from a supported Figma surface and selected any content it requires. Then verify your connection, Figma’s browser or desktop-app environment, and any VPN, proxy, extension, or organization restrictions. If the problem affects only one third-party plugin, contact its developer; Figma says it does not support third-party plugins.
Identify where the plugin fails
Before changing settings, note whether the plugin is missing from the menu, fails to open, opens but produces no result, or displays an error. Record the plugin name, whether you are using Figma in a browser or the desktop app, where you launched it, and any error text. These details help distinguish a launch, selection, connectivity, access, or plugin-specific problem.
Check how you launch the plugin and what it needs
Figma plugins are run manually, only one can run at a time, and they cannot perform actions in the background. Some plugins also require a selection, such as a frame, object, or layer. Check the plugin’s listing or instructions, select the required content, and launch it from Figma Community, the file browser, or the relevant Figma file surface. See Figma’s instructions for using plugins in files.
Check connectivity and Figma’s environment
Confirm that your internet connection is stable. When Figma is offline, you cannot install new plugins or run plugins that depend on external browser APIs. A plugin that is already open and does not rely on those APIs may still work. Details are in Figma’s offline guidance.
#1 Best Overall
For other environment problems, Figma’s troubleshooting checklist recommends checking the following:
- Use a current stable browser and operating system supported by Figma.
- Check that WebGL is available and graphics drivers are up to date.
- Make sure the computer has enough available memory.
- Review network settings that may interfere with Figma.
If you are using Figma in a browser, force-quit and reopen it in a new window. If you are using the desktop app, force-quit and restart it. Figma also lists clearing the desktop app cache as an option; follow its current official instructions for that step rather than using generic cleanup procedures.

Look for VPN, proxy, extension, or organization restrictions
VPNs, proxies, and some browser extensions can interfere with Figma access. Figma suggests adding Figma to a safe list when using a VPN or proxy. If you are on a managed work or school network, ask its administrator whether network controls are blocking Figma or its required connections.
For generative plugins and shaders specifically, an organization administrator may have disabled access. Ask the administrator to check the relevant setting using Figma’s access-management guidance.

Capture a console log if the problem persists
A console log can help support staff diagnose an error that is not explained by the checks above. Figma’s console-log instructions list these ways to open Developer Tools:
- Mac: Press Command–Option–I.
- Windows desktop app: Press Ctrl–Alt–I, or use Help → Toggle Developer Tools.
- Browser: Press F12.
In Developer Tools, select the Console tab, reproduce the problem, and save the log. Figma recommends attaching it to a Support conversation. It also notes that errors mentioning api-iam.intercom.io do not affect performance or indicate a Figma error.

Contact the right support team
If the failure is limited to a particular third-party plugin, contact its developer through the support contact on the plugin listing or provided by the developer. Figma does not provide support for third-party plugins. If the problem appears to affect Figma more broadly, contact Figma Support with the relevant file or issue details and, when useful, the saved console log.
