Choose Vodafone TV if you qualify through Vodafone broadband or mobile and want Freely, Android TV apps, cloud games, or Vodafone TV Essential’s Netflix and HBO Max inclusions. Choose Sky Stream if its channel line-up and package options better fit what you watch. The right comparison is the cost of your preferred package over its commitment, including broadband, add-ons, subscription tiers and scheduled price changes—not one headline monthly price against another.
What is the difference between Vodafone TV and Sky Stream?
Both bring television and streaming services to a TV over broadband, but their packages and eligibility differ.
- Vodafone TV is a plug-in hub running Android TV. It combines live TV, streaming, music, games and apps, including Freely and Google Play apps. Vodafone says selected content supports 4K, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Freely does not require a dish or aerial, according to Vodafone’s launch announcement.
- Sky Stream is Sky’s streaming box, connected to a television by HDMI and to the internet by broadband. It does not need a satellite dish. Sky sells it through TV package tiers, with optional extras such as sports, cinema and UHD/Atmos. See Sky’s package information.
Neither service’s format badges guarantee that every programme is available in 4K or with Dolby Vision or Atmos. Availability depends on the content and, for Sky’s UHD/Atmos option, the selected pack and applicable conditions.
How much does Vodafone TV cost?
In a pricing announcement dated 2 October 2026, Vodafone listed Vodafone TV at £10 per month and Vodafone TV Essential at £17 per month. Both require a qualifying Vodafone home broadband or pay-monthly mobile plan. Vodafone says charges are scheduled to rise on 1 April 2027 and again on 1 April 2028; check the current quote and the price schedule for the specific plan before signing up. These are listed prices, not necessarily the total household cost. Vodafone’s announcement has the offer and pricing details.

Vodafone also announced an offer running until 28 October 2026: eligible new Pro Broadband customers would get TV Essential at no extra cost for the first 24 months of a Pro Broadband contract. Its release describes a Vodafone Together price for eligible households with a mobile line. These offers depend on eligibility and should not be treated as standard standalone prices.
What is included with Vodafone TV Essential?
Vodafone TV Essential includes Netflix Standard with Ads and HBO Max Standard with Ads. The £10 Vodafone TV plan makes subscriptions available separately through Vodafone’s subscription platform. If you already pay for one of the included services, count it as a saving only if the bundled tier and account arrangement suit you; do not count the same subscription twice.

What channels and subscriptions do you get with Sky Stream?
Sky’s package choice affects both the channel selection and included subscriptions. Its current package page describes Essential TV as including Netflix Standard with Ads and more than 100 additional channels. Ultimate TV adds Disney+ Standard with Ads and more channels. Available extras include sports, cinema, TNT Sports, Kids, Netflix upgrades and UHD/Atmos. Check Sky’s current package and add-on terms for the exact contents, prices, minimum terms or rolling options, and any restrictions.
Do not compare Vodafone TV Essential with an unspecified “Sky Stream price”: first identify the Sky tier and every add-on you actually want. Channel and app catalogues can change, so check that the shows and live sport important to your household are available on the chosen service.

How to compare the total cost fairly
Build the comparison around the package you would actually use, over the full minimum commitment—not just a first-month promotion or advertised entry price.
- List the content you need. Note the channels, programmes, sports and apps you watch. Check them against the current Vodafone and Sky offers.
- Choose the matching TV tier. For Vodafone, distinguish the £10 TV plan from £17 TV Essential. For Sky, select Essential or Ultimate and add only the packs you want.
- Add broadband and eligibility costs. Vodafone TV requires a qualifying Vodafone broadband or pay-monthly mobile plan. Sky Stream needs broadband; verify availability, connection requirements and address-specific terms with the provider.
- Account for subscriptions accurately. Compare the included Netflix, HBO Max and Disney+ tiers, including adverts. Subtract an existing subscription only if the bundled version would genuinely replace it.
- Include every charge for the commitment. Add the TV service, broadband, chosen packs and any setup or extra-room costs shown in the quote. Include scheduled price changes and note when an offer ends.
- Compare like with like. Work out the total for the same period and content needs, then divide by the number of months if a monthly equivalent helps. Keep one-time discounts separate from recurring charges.
Sky’s add-ons can have distinct prices and contract conditions, while Vodafone publishes scheduled price changes. Because Sky’s total depends on the package and extras and Vodafone’s eligibility depends on your existing or planned Vodafone service, use live provider quotes rather than assuming either service is always cheaper.

Which service fits your household?
Vodafone TV may suit you if…
- You already have, or want, a qualifying Vodafone broadband or pay-monthly mobile plan.
- You want Freely, Android TV apps or access to Google Play apps in the TV interface.
- You would use Vodafone TV Essential’s ad-supported Netflix and HBO Max subscriptions.
- You value its advertised cloud gaming: Vodafone says it offers more than 300 cloud games. A Bluetooth controller is optional; confirm compatibility with the service before buying one.
Sky Stream may suit you if…
- Sky’s channels and package choices fit your viewing better.
- You want to select among Sky’s TV tiers and add-ons for sports, cinema, Kids, TNT Sports or UHD/Atmos.
- You prefer a dish-free Sky service delivered over broadband.
- Sky-specific features such as playlists and Sky Go matter to you.
Vodafone’s product description also promotes a companion app. Treat gaming, on-the-go use and package-specific functions as tie-breakers only if you expect to use them: the monthly content and total committed cost usually decide the value.

Vodafone TV requires a qualifying Vodafone home broadband or pay-monthly mobile plan; it is not a universally available standalone TV subscription. The exact qualifying plans and terms should be confirmed in the current quote. Sky Stream does not require a dish, but it does require broadband and an HDMI connection to the television. Check the provider’s current connection and minimum-speed requirements for your address and package.

Is Vodafone TV better than Sky Stream?
There is no established independent head-to-head winner in the available evidence. Vodafone’s own descriptions present its service as a broader entertainment platform; that is product positioning, not an independent verdict. What Hi-Fi?’s 16 September 2026 early hands-on report explicitly said it had not completed a full test or comparison against rivals. Choose based on the content you want, your eligibility, the package terms and the full cost—not an unsupported claim that one box is objectively better.
Vodafone-commissioned Opinium polling of 2,000 nationally representative UK adults, conducted 25–29 September 2026, found that 40% felt they paid for services they did not regularly use, one in ten struggled to track apps or subscriptions, and 18% named searching across services to find something to watch as their biggest TV frustration. These are vendor-commissioned survey results, not evidence that either Vodafone TV or Sky Stream offers better value or customer satisfaction.
