Both show moving indicators near the screen edges. They may help, but neither platform promises that the feature will prevent or cure motion sickness. A separate app is another option, with different requirements and permissions.
What to try first
- On iPhone: Go to Settings > Accessibility > Motion > Vehicle Motion Cues and choose an option. Try Automatic to have cues appear when the phone detects a ride.
- On Android: If your phone meets the requirements, open Settings and search for Motion assist. Turn on Start in a moving vehicle for automatic activation; add the Quick Settings tile so you can control it manually if detection fails.
- If the setting is unavailable or you want a different approach: Check the Android requirements below, or consider an app. An audio app such as Dizzout is not the same kind of tool as the visual cues built into the phones.
These features are intended for passengers. Do not use them while driving or whenever your attention is needed for safety.
Use Vehicle Motion Cues on iPhone
Open Settings > Accessibility > Motion > Vehicle Motion Cues and select a setting. With Automatic enabled, iPhone displays animated dots at the edges of the screen when it detects that you are riding in a car or another on-road vehicle; the dots disappear when movement stops. You can also turn the feature on or off from the Vehicle Motion Cues control in Control Center. Apple lets you customize the dots’ pattern, color, and visibility, including their size and number.
Apple says the cues work best when you are seated facing forward. Its guidance is that they may help reduce motion sickness, not that they prevent it or treat a medical condition. Apple also advises against relying on motion settings in high-risk situations. See Apple’s Vehicle Motion Cues instructions.

Use Motion assist on Android
Check eligibility
Google’s documented Motion assist feature requires Android 17 or higher and updated Google Play Services. Availability depends on your device and software version, so do not assume every Android phone includes it. If the setting is missing, check your Android version and update Google Play Services.
Turn it on and keep a manual control handy
- Open Settings > profile > All services > Personal & device safety > Motion assist, or search Settings for “Motion assist.”
- Turn on Start in a moving vehicle if you want it to activate automatically.
- Add the Motion assist tile to Quick Settings so you can control it manually. Google cautions that the phone may not always detect a moving vehicle.
Motion assist shows small bubbles at the screen edges that move using the phone’s motion sensors. You can customize properties such as opacity, color theme, shape, and randomization. Google describes it as a way to help reduce motion sickness; its help page does not establish an efficacy rate. See Google’s Motion assist instructions.

The two platforms’ help pages do not establish that one option works better than the other. Neither gives an efficacy rate, so the feature that is available and comfortable for you is the practical one to try.
Are separate motion-sickness apps worth trying?
KineStop for Android
KineStop’s Google Play listing describes an artificial-horizon overlay for using a screen in a vehicle and shows that the app includes in-app purchases. The listing says it may request Accessibility Service permission to display cues across the whole screen. Review the permission request and listing before enabling it. The overlay and benefit descriptions come from the developer; they are not independent evidence that the app works.

Dizzout for iPhone and Android
Dizzout’s App Store listing describes audio sessions before or during travel and shows in-app purchases. The Dizzout website says the app is available to try on iPhone and Android. These are listing and developer statements, not independent evidence of effectiveness. Audio sessions are a different approach from screen-edge visual cues, so compare them by how you prefer to use your phone rather than assuming one is more effective.
What about Reduce Motion on iPhone?
iPhone also has Reduce Motion and controls for automatically playing animations. These settings change onscreen motion, but they are not the same feature as Vehicle Motion Cues. Apple’s guidance on onscreen motion cautions against relying on these settings in high-risk situations or to treat a medical condition. See Apple’s onscreen motion settings guide.

What to expect—and what not to assume
Apple and Google describe their built-in features as ways to help reduce motion sickness, but the cited help pages do not provide efficacy rates. The app listings and developer site likewise do not establish independent proof that KineStop or Dizzout works. Treat these options as things to try, not guaranteed prevention or treatment. If a visual overlay is distracting, automatic detection does not work, or the setting is unavailable, turn it off or try a different option; do not adjust the phone when you need to pay attention to the road or your surroundings.
