If Firefox’s title bar is the wrong color—or a white border or gradient remains—first identify which part of the window you mean. Firefox’s native title bar is controlled separately from its tabs and toolbars. On desktop, you can show the system title bar through Menu > More Tools > Customize Toolbar, then check Title Bar at the lower left and select Done. If the color is still unexpected, investigate the relevant operating-system appearance settings before changing Firefox’s theme.

First, identify the part of Firefox that looks wrong

The title bar is the window decoration supplied by the operating system. Firefox’s tabs and toolbar are separate surfaces, even when they sit at the very top of the window and look like a title bar. This distinction matters: a setting that changes Firefox’s own colors is not necessarily able to change a native OS title bar.

To reveal the system title bar in desktop Firefox on Windows, macOS, or Linux:

  1. Open the Firefox menu and choose More Tools > Customize Toolbar.
  2. At the lower left, check Title Bar.
  3. Select Done.

Mozilla notes that the checkbox may not appear while Firefox is in full-screen mode. Exit full screen and check again if you cannot find it. See Mozilla’s toolbar customization instructions.

If the native title bar is the wrong color

When the system title bar is visible but its color does not match expectations, check the operating system’s window-title-bar appearance settings. In a Mozilla Support discussion about Windows, support volunteer jscher2000 wrote, “I think Firefox will follow Windows’ lead on the title bar background color (settings for active and inactive windows).” The question owner later said changing the Windows title-bar color helped.

This is a Windows-specific observation from a support discussion, not a guarantee for every current combination of Firefox and Windows. Active and inactive windows may also use different appearance settings, so compare Firefox while it is focused and while another window is active. The discussion is at Mozilla Support.

If you meant Firefox’s tabs or toolbar

If the tabs and toolbar—not the OS title bar—are the surface whose colors look wrong, Firefox Color was suggested in a Mozilla Support discussion as a way to set Firefox colors. That source does not establish that Firefox Color changes the operating system’s native title bar. Keep the two goals separate: Firefox’s interface colors versus the window title bar controlled by the OS. See the relevant Mozilla Support discussion.

If a white border or window decoration remains

A persistent border or other window-decoration glitch does not by itself prove that the Firefox theme is responsible. A Mozilla Support discussion raised several diagnostic checks; treat them as leads rather than guaranteed repairs:

  • Toggle the system Title Bar option in Customize Toolbar and see whether the symptom changes.
  • If you use a custom Windows theme, compare the appearance with the standard theme.
  • Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check whether an extension or customization may be involved.
  • Compare the result at a different display-scaling setting, if practical.

These checks were discussed in connection with a thick white border; they are not confirmed fixes for every gradient or color mismatch. The thread is at Mozilla Support.
