Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →First identify which device produced the reading: the treadmill console, a watch, a foot pod, or a connected app. Those devices may measure different things, so a mismatch alone does not establish which one is wrong. Treadmill speed, wearable pace and distance, and running-form metrics need to be checked separately.
Identify the reading that seems wrong
Record the treadmill’s displayed speed, the watch’s pace and distance, the connected app’s values, and the name of the “form” metric. Note whether the difference is steady, appears during speed changes, or shows up only after the workout syncs. Then determine where the watch gets its data: its own estimate, a paired foot pod, or information from the treadmill or app.
The distinction matters because, as Stryd explains for its product, a treadmill display reports belt speed while a foot pod estimates running speed from stride displacement. A watch may estimate indoor pace from movement or cadence instead of reading the belt directly. COROS says its cadence-pace model can be inaccurate when pace changes suddenly or frequently; it advises that “Sudden or frequent pace changes can create inaccuracies.” COROS Help Center guidance describes this behavior.
Check the wearable and sensor setup
Use the right activity and data source
Select the watch’s indoor or treadmill activity profile. In its settings or connected-device list, confirm which paired sensor supplies pace and distance. A compatible sensor can take priority over the watch’s treadmill calibration: Garmin notes that a compatible pace-and-distance sensor may override treadmill calibration, and a previously paired device can affect recorded distance. See Garmin’s treadmill calibration guidance for device-dependent behavior.

Keep the measurement conditions consistent
For a watch that estimates pace from cadence, try a steady-speed run before judging its reading. With intervals, COROS allows manual speed and grade entry before or during an Indoor Run; update the entered speed when the treadmill changes speed. Menu labels and available features vary by model and software version. COROS’s steps are documented in its Indoor Run guidance.
Calibrate the device that is actually wrong
Correct an eligible COROS workout
For an eligible COROS Indoor Run, enter the corrected total distance when the watch prompts you after the activity. COROS says this updates its cadence-pace model for later runs. The correction is available only for runs of at least 1 km that used no manual speed and were not part of a structured workout or training plan; the allowed correction is within ±25% of recorded distance. It does not change calculations in third-party apps, so an app may continue to show a different value. Details are in the COROS Indoor Run instructions.

Follow the manufacturer’s procedure for other watches and apps
Garmin documents watch-specific treadmill calibration and sensor priorities. For compatible Garmin HRM products, Garmin says the estimate typically takes about two hours of outdoor running to calibrate; that is a Garmin-specific statement, not a general calibration period for watches or sensors. Garmin’s support guidance covers treadmill calibration, and its compatible HRM guidance explains the outdoor-running estimate.
Zwift publishes a calibration procedure for its run-speed setup. Use the prompts for the current app and device combination rather than transferring a calibration factor from another brand. See Zwift’s foot-pod calibration instructions.

Decide whether an independent foot pod would help
A foot pod can be useful if you want a separate indoor pace-and-distance source, but check compatibility with the watch, sensor connection method, and app before buying or pairing one. COROS recommends its POD 2 for indoor accuracy; Stryd describes its Pod as estimating speed from stride displacement. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent comparative test results. COROS provides product and setup information at its Indoor Run support page; Stryd explains its approach at its treadmill-running article.
Stryd says its calibration factor can be changed to make the pod match the treadmill display, but warns that doing so can reduce accuracy and affect outdoor pace if the factor remains changed. Matching two displays is a preference, not proof that either is accurately calibrated. Decide whether the priority is agreement with the console or an independent speed estimate, and restore the appropriate setting for outdoor use.

Diagnose form readings separately from pace
“Form” could mean cadence, stride length, ground-contact data, power, or a device-specific form score. A pace mismatch cannot diagnose those metrics. Treadmill running can change gait and perceived effort, so a different form or effort reading is not automatically a sensor fault. COROS’s pace estimate also depends on cadence, while Stryd notes treadmill conditions can affect gait and perceived effort. Without the exact wearable, sensor, app, and metric, there is no universal form correction supported by these sources.
Escalate a treadmill-console speed problem safely
If the treadmill’s own speed feedback seems wrong, look up the exact make and model and use its manual or manufacturer support. Do not assume that a watch calibration will fix the belt-speed reading.
A Johnson Health Tech service guide describes an Engineering Mode auto-calibration process for its service context. If the procedure returns an E1 error, that guide directs a technician to check the speed-sensor wire and lists the motor control board as a last step. This is model-specific technical guidance, not a universal user procedure. Do not enter service modes, remove covers, replace parts, or run a calibration sequence unless the documentation for that exact treadmill says it is appropriate for you. The guide is available as a Johnson Health Tech treadmill service manual.
