Anthropic says you cannot create a dedicated Claude password, and its reviewed personal login guidance does not document a Claude-native multi-factor authentication setting. To strengthen sign-in, protect the Google Account or email mailbox that Claude relies on.
How Claude account sign-in works
Anthropic’s Claude Help Center login guidance, dated May 19, 2026, describes two personal sign-in options: Continue with Google and Continue with email, which sends a secure login link. It also states, “It’s not possible to create a dedicated password for your Claude account at this time.”
The login guidance reviewed does not document a personal Claude MFA toggle. That is a limit of the published guidance, not proof that no feature could be available in every plan or added later. A second factor configured on Google protects the Google sign-in route; it does not add a separate Claude-controlled factor.
Choose the sign-in route you can protect and recover
Neither documented option is universally safer for every person. Choose the account you can secure well and reliably access whenever Claude asks you to sign in.

Secure Claude sign-in through Google
- Open your Google Account’s Security & sign-in settings.
- Turn on 2-Step Verification and follow Google’s setup prompts.
- Consider a passkey or hardware security key if you want phishing-resistant protection for the Google Account. Google says these methods protect Google Accounts from phishing attacks.
- Review Google Account recovery options and the devices that can approve sign-ins so you can still access the account if a device is lost.
These measures strengthen authentication to Google, which mediates your Claude login; they are not Claude-native authentication settings. A FIDO2-compatible security key is one possible physical key for the Google Account, not a key Anthropic requires or documents as a Claude factor. Secure the mailbox used for email login links
If you choose Continue with email, possession of the registered mailbox is central to receiving Claude’s login link. Use the email provider’s strongest available sign-in protection, keep recovery methods accurate, and secure the devices where you read mail. These are practical mailbox safeguards, not Claude-specific settings.

Sign out of Claude sessions if you suspect access
- Open Claude on the web and go to Settings > Account.
- Use Log Out to sign out across devices. Anthropic says this option is not available in the iOS or Android apps.
- Secure the linked Google Account or email mailbox, then contact Anthropic support if suspicious activity or access problems remain unresolved.

Work accounts and API keys need separate safeguards
Organization sign-in
For managed organizations, Anthropic documents organization-level single sign-on (SSO) configuration. Administrators should use the current SSO setup guidance alongside their identity provider’s instructions. SSO is an organization control, not a personal Claude account setting.

API Console credentials
API keys are not Claude login passwords and require their own protection. Anthropic warns that an exposed API key can enable unauthorized usage and charges. Keep keys out of public code, store them as encrypted secrets, monitor usage, and separate keys by purpose where practical. If a key may be compromised, delete it and replace it.
