Google’s anti-motion-sickness feature is called Motion assist. On a compatible device, open Settings > your profile > All services > Personal & device safety > Motion assist. Turn on Start in a moving vehicle for automatic activation, and add its Quick Settings tile for manual access if vehicle detection misses your ride.
What Motion assist does
Motion assist displays small bubbles along the edges of the screen. They move in response to the phone’s motion sensors, reflecting vehicle turns, acceleration, and braking. The aim is to help the eyes’ visual input better match the body’s sense of movement while you use your phone as a passenger.
Google describes Motion assist as a way to help reduce motion sickness, not as a guarantee that symptoms will be prevented. Google’s official pages do not provide clinical effectiveness results or a numerical estimate of how much it helps. Check whether your device is eligible
Google lists Android 17 or higher and updated Google Play services as requirements for Motion assist. The official information does not identify specific supported Pixel models, so availability on a particular generation cannot be assumed. If the setting is absent, check your Android version and update Google Play services; availability may also depend on rollout. Google Android Help

Turn on Motion assist
- Open Settings.
- Tap your profile, then All services.
- Under Personal & device safety, tap Motion assist. If you do not see it, search Settings for “Motion assist.”
- To have it start when the phone detects a moving vehicle, turn on Start in a moving vehicle.
Automatic activation is convenient, but Google notes that vehicle detection may not always work. Add the Quick Settings tile as a fallback so you can turn Motion assist on manually.
Add Motion assist to Quick Settings
From the Motion assist settings page, tap Add tile to Quick Settings and choose Small tile or Large tile. You can also edit Quick Settings and add the Motion assist tile there. Once added, use the tile when you want to start or stop the feature yourself. Google Android Help

Customize the bubbles or stop a session
In Motion assist settings, tap Customize to adjust bubble opacity, color theme, and shape, or choose whether the shape and color randomize every few seconds. The settings page shows a live preview as you make changes.
If Motion assist starts automatically, Google says a silent notification appears. Tap that notification to turn the feature off for that session. Google Android Help

If Motion assist is missing
- Confirm that the phone is running Android 17 or higher.
- Update Google Play services.
- Search Settings for “Motion assist” in case the menu is difficult to locate.
- If it still does not appear, availability may depend on rollout; Google’s cited setup guidance does not list specific Pixel models.
