Apple says iPhone Call Screening processing happens on your device and isn’t shared with Apple. That statement applies to Apple’s built-in screening—not every part of a phone call. Your carrier still provides the call service, and any caller-ID app you enable has its own data practices.
What iPhone Call Screening does
When screening is set to Ask Reason for Calling, the iPhone automatically answers calls from unknown numbers and asks the caller for their name and reason for calling. It displays the caller’s response so you can decide whether to answer. Apple describes the processing for this feature as taking place entirely on the device and not being shared with Apple. Apple’s privacy features
The setting offers three behaviors. They affect how unknown calls reach you, not the separate privacy policies of your carrier or any caller-ID app.
| Setting | What happens to calls from unsaved numbers |
|---|---|
| Ask Reason for Calling | The iPhone asks the caller for their name and reason for calling before it rings. |
| Silence | The call is sent to voicemail without ringing. |
| Never | Call screening is turned off. |
Apple also documents a separate feature that filters missed calls and voicemails from unknown numbers into an Unknown Callers list. That is distinct from the screening choice above. Apple Support: Screen and block calls

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
What Apple’s privacy statement does—and doesn’t—cover
Apple’s built-in Call Screening
Apple’s stated claim is specific: “Call Screening processing occurs entirely on your device and isn’t shared with Apple.” The feature asks the caller to provide information, then presents the response on your iPhone. Apple’s statement addresses its screening processing; it should not be read as a guarantee that no information about a call is handled by any other party.
Your carrier and spam identification
Your carrier still provides the phone service. Apple says standard calling and data rates may apply, and that calls identified by a carrier as potential spam or fraud can be silenced and sent to voicemail. Apple’s guidance does not specify what call metadata each carrier retains or processes, so its on-device statement does not settle your carrier’s separate privacy practices. - SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Caller-ID apps
iPhone can use supported call-identification apps to provide caller information. Apple’s documentation does not describe the data handling of any particular app. If you enable one, consult that provider’s current privacy policy; Apple’s statement about its own screening does not apply to the app’s practices. Apple Support: Use caller ID and spam-blocking apps
Live Voicemail is related, but separate
Live Voicemail shows a transcription as someone leaves a voicemail. Apple says Live Voicemail processing also takes place on device and is not shared with Apple: “Thanks to the power of the Neural Engine, Live Voicemail processing occurs entirely on your device, and isn’t shared with Apple.” Apple’s privacy features

That processing statement is separate from where voicemail is available and whether voicemail data syncs. Apple says voicemail features vary by carrier and country or region, and Phone & FaceTime voicemail syncing to iCloud is a separate setting. Apple Support: Check your voicemail on iPhone

When screening may behave differently
- Roaming: Apple says calls are not screened while roaming, regardless of the selected setting.
- After an emergency call: Apple says screening turns off for 24 hours after you call emergency services.
- Earlier software: On software earlier than iOS 17, Apple says Live Voicemail must also be enabled for call screening.
- Carrier and call charges: Standard calling and data rates may apply; charges and service details depend on your carrier.
These are Apple-documented behaviors, not guarantees about every carrier’s network or every region. Apple Support: Screen and block calls
