Qt LTS is a designation for selected Qt minor releases that receive a longer maintenance window than regular minor releases. It does not mean every Qt product, module, license, or support service is covered in the same way: developers need to check the specific release and their license terms.
What Qt LTS means
Qt’s release cycle includes major releases, minor releases, and maintenance releases. LTS applies to selected minor releases. Qt says every fourth minor release is designated LTS, with an LTS release planned every two years. The designation means that release line is maintained for longer than an ordinary minor release; it is not a separate kind of application or a promise that the code will never need updating. See Qt’s LTS policy overview and its release-cycle information.
Maintenance releases are patch-level updates within a release line. Qt describes them as focused on security and quality improvements, typically without new features or changes to core functionality. An LTS choice therefore extends the period in which a line receives maintenance; it does not remove the need to evaluate and apply those updates.
How long Qt maintains a release
Qt’s published windows differ by release type and license. Its policy says commercial LTS releases from Qt 6.8 onward receive five years of maintenance; LTS releases through Qt 6.5 had three years. Regular commercial minor releases have a stated 12-month maintenance period per minor version. Check the release-specific page and applicable commercial agreement before treating a period as a contractual commitment for your product.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Release or edition | Published maintenance information | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial LTS from Qt 6.8 onward | Five years, according to Qt’s policy overview and release documentation. | Confirm the exact product, version, license, and agreement. Qt’s versioned documentation states: “Starting with version 6.8.0, the LTS versions are supported for five years.” |
| LTS through Qt 6.5 | Three years, according to Qt’s published policy. | Check the release-specific support status; do not apply the newer five-year policy retroactively. |
| Regular commercial minor release | 12 months per minor release, according to Qt’s maintenance-period information. | Confirm the relevant release dates and agreement. |
| Community Edition | Not stated as equivalent to commercial LTS maintenance in the cited policy information. | Determine how your team will track updates and handle security patches; do not assume commercial LTS service is included. |
Qt says commercial LTS customers receive maintenance releases and security patches during the maintenance period. Its Community Edition guidance describes more frequent manual work to stay current, particularly for security patches. The practical difference is not simply the label on a version: patch access, timing, and the team’s maintenance responsibilities depend on the edition and terms. See Qt’s maintenance-period information and Qt’s release documentation.
Choosing LTS or a regular minor release
Choose based on the application’s expected life and the team’s ability to maintain it, rather than treating LTS as automatically preferable.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Maintenance horizon: Compare the release’s published window with how long you expect to ship and support the product.
- Patch access and responsibility: Confirm whether your plan relies on commercial maintenance or whether your team will manage Community Edition updates and security patching.
- Feature timing: Regular minor releases provide newer features sooner; LTS prioritizes a longer maintenance period and stability.
- Modules and build configuration: Review the compatibility expectations and qualifications for the Qt modules, platforms, and configurations your application actually uses. Qt notes exceptions, including technical-preview functionality and build/configuration conditions, in its Qt 6 release documentation.
- Longer-term obligations: Account for your product’s release cadence, regulatory requirements, supported platforms, and available engineering time.
What happens after standard support ends
End of standard support does not necessarily mean no further service is available. Qt describes Extended Support as an option that can be purchased annually for most products after end of support, subject to eligibility and terms. Its support page also describes Standard Support for many commercial licenses and Premium Support available on request for commercial customers. These offerings have differing scopes and exclusions, so confirm the applicable product and contract directly with Qt. See Qt support options and Extended Support information.

In an announcement dated January 19, 2026, Qt Group said standard support for Qt 6.5 would end after April 3, 2026, and that Qt 6.8 LTS, released in October 2024, was expected to be maintained through October 2029. Those dates apply to the named versions, not to Qt releases generally. Because the Qt 6.5 end date has passed, check Qt’s current support information before making a migration decision or describing a release’s present status. The announcement is at Qt’s Qt 6.5 support notice.
