After a month with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8, one TechRadar reviewer found it harder to return to a conventional Android phone—not because every phone suddenly became worse, but because the Fold8’s larger inner display changed how everyday tasks felt. That is one reviewer’s reaction, not a universal verdict or a controlled comparison.
What changes when you use the Fold8 every day?
The adjustment is less about a single headline feature than about having two ways to use one phone. Folded, the Fold8 behaves like a conventional handset; opened, it gives the reviewer a larger screen for content. After repeated use, reading or watching on that larger display can make a regular phone feel constrained by comparison. The effect depends on how often a person opens the device and what they do on it.
Folded: still a phone for quick tasks
When closed, the Fold8 can handle the brief interactions that make up much of phone use: checking a notification, replying to a message, or looking something up. The reviewer’s account does not establish that its folded dimensions or comfort are better than a particular conventional flagship, so those are matters to assess in person rather than assume from the form factor.
Unfolded: more room for content
The month-long account describes the Fold8 as appealing for content use. A larger screen can make reading, video, and games feel more expansive than on a standard phone. That does not prove that every app uses the extra space well, or that the Fold8 is better for every task. The advantage matters most to someone who regularly wants a larger viewing area without carrying a separate tablet.

Why might a regular Android phone feel wrong afterward?
Familiarity can reset expectations. If a person repeatedly unfolds a phone to read or watch, a conventional handset’s smaller display may seem limiting when they go back. The Fold8 reviewer’s headline captures that subjective contrast; it is not evidence that Android phones generally perform worse or that all users will prefer a foldable.
Routine is the key variable. Someone who mostly sends messages, takes quick photos, and uses navigation while the phone is closed may get little benefit from the inner screen. Someone who spends longer stretches reading or watching may notice its absence more. The review supports a content-use preference, not a claim that the Fold8 wins every daily-use comparison.

What the month-long account does—and does not—establish
TechRadar published its account on August 22, 2026, and its reviewer said they had used the phone for a month. That makes the preference an attributed extended-use impression, rather than a claim that this article’s writer personally tested the device. It is not a controlled head-to-head test or a survey of Fold8 owners.
Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold8 on August 6, 2026, and said sales began in select markets on August 7, with availability expanding globally. Check Samsung’s launch announcement and the official US product page for model identity and market-specific availability; the US page should not be taken as a guide to every region.

Samsung also said preorders for its new lineup were more than 30% higher than for the previous generation. That is Samsung’s company-reported figure for the lineup, not an independently verified market statistic or a Fold8-only result.
What this account cannot tell you about buying one
A month of content-focused use does not settle the tradeoffs that often determine whether a foldable suits a particular buyer. The cited account does not provide a verified, like-for-like comparison of the Fold8’s camera, battery, price, weight, durability, or software support against a conventional flagship or the pricier Fold8 Ultra. It also does not establish that a specific case or inner-screen protector is compatible.

- Price and configuration: Check current listings in your market; prices and available versions can vary.
- Handling: Try both folded and unfolded use if possible. Comfort is personal, and the review does not establish a universal preference.
- Camera, battery, and durability: Compare current, authoritative specifications and independent testing for the exact models you are considering.
- Accessories: Confirm exact Fold8 compatibility, especially around the hinge and inner display, before buying a case or screen protection.
Who is most likely to share the reviewer’s reaction?
The reaction is most plausible for people who often use a phone for longer reading or viewing sessions and value having a larger screen available in the same device. It is less likely to matter to someone whose phone use is mostly quick, folded interactions or who prioritizes tradeoffs the account does not evaluate. The useful question is not whether every Android phone will feel wrong, but whether the Fold8’s larger display would change the way you use yours.
