To set up parental controls on a Samsung TV, choose the restriction that matches what your child watches: lock programs by rating, lock selected apps, or lock supported broadcast channels. The menu path varies by model year and region, and TV controls do not automatically restrict every streaming account or connected device.
Choose the control for the content source

Samsung’s menu instructions vary by model and country. Samsung Australia notes that its guide applies to products purchased in Australia; if the labels below do not match your TV, check your region’s Samsung support page or the manual for your exact model. Samsung Australia’s parental-controls guide separates paths by model year.
Restrict programs by rating
Choose a rating threshold to require the TV PIN for programs at that category and higher. The menu wording and availability depend on the model and region.
Samsung US menu path
- Open Settings.
- Select Broadcasting, then Program Rating Lock Settings.
- Enter the TV PIN and turn on Program Rating Lock.
- Choose TV Rating or Movie Rating, then select the rating category.
Programs at the chosen category and higher require the PIN. Samsung’s US instructions are not a universal menu path for every regional model. See Samsung US Support’s kid-friendly TV guide.

Samsung Australia menu paths
- 2022–2026 models: Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Parental Settings > Programme Rating Lock.
- 2016–2021 models: Settings > Broadcast > Programme Rating Lock.
Samsung Australia states that Programme Rating Lock does not block programs from external sources, such as content received through a connected device. It therefore should not be treated as a filter for every HDMI input.
Lock access to selected apps
App Lock prevents an app from opening without the TV PIN. Samsung describes the result this way: “You can lock the app so you can still use it by entering a PIN, but your child will not be able to access it.”

Samsung US menu path
- Open Apps, then select Settings.
- Choose the app you want to restrict.
- Select Lock/Unlock and enter the TV PIN.
Samsung Australia menu paths
- 2022–2026 models: Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Parental Settings > App Lock Settings > select an app > Lock/Unlock.
- 2017–2021 models: Apps > App Settings.
- 2016 models: My Apps > Options.
Names and availability can differ. If you do not see these options, check the instructions for your model and region rather than assuming the TV has the same menu.
Lock broadcast channels where supported
Samsung Australia lists channel locks under Parental Settings on 2022–2026 models and under Broadcasting or Broadcast on earlier models. For the guide’s free-to-air channel-lock setup, a digital TV antenna must be installed and connected to the TV or One Connect Box. This antenna detail applies to that broadcast scenario; it is not a requirement for app locks or program-rating settings.

Channel locks cover antenna or satellite channels connected directly to the TV. They do not block channels supplied by external sources such as a set-top box, which must be restricted separately.
Change the PIN and keep it private
Samsung US identifies 0000 as the default PIN and recommends changing it so children cannot guess it. Samsung UK describes the change process as a four-digit replacement.

- Select General > System Manager > Change PIN.
- Enter the current PIN, then enter and confirm a new four-digit PIN.
Regional labels vary; Samsung Australia’s covered models place the option under General and Privacy or System Manager, then Change PIN. Consult Samsung UK’s PIN guidance or your regional support page if the route differs.

TV-level app locks control whether an app opens; they do not configure the service’s profiles or viewing restrictions. Samsung US lists these service-level options, which are set in the relevant app or account:

Features can change and may vary by service or region. Check the service’s current account settings; enabling a restriction on the TV does not set one up automatically in the streaming account.
