1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesChoose the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen, 2023) if you want Alexa controls, Wi-Fi 6E support, or its listed 16 GB of storage. Choose the Roku Streaming Stick 4K (model 3820) if you prefer Roku’s interface, want its included voice remote to control TV power and volume, or value its long-range Wi-Fi receiver design. Neither is universally better: your TV, router, essential apps, and stick placement determine which is the more practical fit.
Which streaming stick is better for your TV?
For a compatible 4K television, both named models support 4K playback, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+. Amazon also lists HLG support for the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. Roku says model 3820 supports 720p HD, 1080p Full HD, 4K Ultra HD, and HDR, so it can also be used with lower-resolution TVs.
A streaming stick cannot upgrade a TV’s display: a non-4K television will not show 4K, and HDR requires a compatible TV and compatible content. The app, title, HDMI setup, and audio equipment can also affect which features are available. Format support alone does not guarantee a visible improvement on every screen.
| Feature | Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen, 2023) | Roku Streaming Stick 4K (model 3820) |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum listed playback | 4K | 4K Ultra HD |
| HDR formats listed | Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG | Dolby Vision, HDR10+; Roku support documentation also identifies HDR |
| Wireless feature highlighted | Wi-Fi 6E | Long-range Wi-Fi receiver built into the supplied USB power cable |
| Storage | 16 GB listed by Amazon; usable free space is not stated | Not stated by the cited Roku product and setup pages |
| Voice remote | Alexa voice remote with TV controls | Roku Voice Remote with TV power and volume controls |
Specifications are manufacturer claims, not a head-to-head performance test. Amazon’s Fire TV device specifications and Roku’s product page list the respective formats; Roku’s setup instructions identify the model and supported resolutions.

Do you need Wi-Fi 6E for the Fire TV Stick 4K Max?
No. Wi-Fi 6E is a feature of the 4K Max, not a prerequisite for using it. To use the 6 GHz band, you need a compatible router; whether it helps depends on signal strength, interference, internet service, and the streaming source. The presence of Wi-Fi 6E in the specification does not by itself guarantee faster or more reliable streaming.
Roku takes a different approach: the Streaming Stick 4K’s long-range Wi-Fi receiver is built into its supplied USB power cable. Roku warns that substituting another cable may prevent the device from turning on, so keep the supplied cable in place when arranging power and reception.
Which remote and voice assistant suit your household?
The Fire TV 4K Max includes an Alexa voice remote with TV controls, making it the natural fit if Alexa is already part of how you control devices. Roku’s included voice remote controls TV power and volume and works with Roku’s interface. Choose based on the assistant and navigation style you actually want to use; both models include TV controls, but their platform ecosystems differ.

Which apps and content are available?
Before choosing, write down the apps you use most and verify that each is currently available for the device in your country. Amazon’s documentation says apps and games must be compatible and available through the Amazon Appstore. Roku promotes a mix of free and paid content, including The Roku Channel, but that does not establish that every app or service is available in every region.
Roku’s product page describes its stick as offering “stunning 4K picture quality, lifelike clarity with Dolby Vision and HDR10+, and a long‑range Wi‑Fi receiver for seamless streaming around the house.” That is Roku’s promotional wording, not an independent comparative test. See Amazon’s Fire TV compatibility and support information and Roku’s product information when checking platform details.
Does the Fire TV model or Roku stick have more storage?
Amazon lists 16 GB of storage for the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen, 2023). That figure is the device’s listed capacity, not a statement of how much space remains free for apps or games after setup. The Roku product and setup pages cited here do not state a comparable storage figure, so the available evidence does not support a capacity comparison. If installing games or many apps matters, verify current device details before buying.

Check the physical setup before buying
- HDMI access: Roku model 3820 connects to an available HDMI port. Check that the stick can fit behind a wall-mounted TV and that the port is accessible.
- Power and cable routing: Plan where the USB power cable will run and how it will reach power. For Roku, the supplied cable also carries the Wi-Fi receiver; replacing it may stop the stick from turning on.
- TV and audio compatibility: Check your TV’s resolution, HDR formats, HDMI configuration, and any audio equipment before expecting 4K, HDR, or Dolby Atmos playback.
Roku’s setup guide for Streaming Stick 4K covers its HDMI connection and cable-specific receiver. Amazon’s Fire TV specifications identify the 4K Max’s supported features.
Make the choice by matching features to your setup
- Pick Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen, 2023) for Alexa-oriented control, a Wi-Fi 6E-capable router if you expect to use its 6 GHz band, or a reason to prioritize its listed 16 GB storage.
- Pick Roku Streaming Stick 4K (model 3820) for Roku’s interface and content ecosystem, its voice remote’s TV power and volume controls, or a setup where its cable-integrated long-range receiver is useful.
- For either one, confirm essential apps in your country, the TV’s resolution and HDR support, and the practical route from HDMI to power.
To avoid mixing specifications across generations, check Amazon’s Fire TV device identification page if a listing says only “Fire TV Stick.” The comparison here is specifically with the 4K Max 2nd Gen (2023), not every Fire TV Stick model.
