If you blocked access earlier, change Discord’s permission in Chrome’s Site settings, then retry. Microphone and camera permissions are separate, and your computer may also require its own permission.
Allow Discord to use your microphone or camera the first time

Open Discord in Chrome and start or join the voice channel or video call where you need the device.

When Chrome displays a permission prompt, choose Allow while visiting the site or Allow this time. These are options listed in Google Chrome Help. Allow microphone access for voice and camera access for video; approve each one separately.

Return to the call. If Chrome says it cannot use the device, follow its Open settings prompt to check the computer-level permission too.

Change a permission you previously blocked

In Chrome, open the three-dot menu and choose Settings.

Go to Privacy and security > Site settings.

Choose Microphone, find Discord in the blocked sites, and change its permission to Allow or remove the exception.

For video, return to Site settings, choose Camera, and change or remove Discord’s blocked permission there as well.

Return to Discord and retry the call. For a blocked microphone, Discord’s microphone guidance specifically recommends joining a voice channel and selecting Allow when Chrome prompts again.

Google’s Chrome instructions for camera and microphone access cover changing permissions from Site settings. The exact labels can vary with Chrome version and device.

Chrome’s site permission is only one layer. The operating system can separately block app access, Discord can be set to the wrong device, and a server or channel can restrict voice or video.

Check the computer’s privacy permission
If Chrome reports that it cannot use the camera or microphone, follow the browser’s Open settings prompt and enable the relevant computer-level permission. Menu names vary by device, so use the system prompt rather than relying on a platform-specific path. Google notes that an administrator may control camera and microphone settings on work or school Chrome.
Check Discord’s device and input settings
In Discord, open User Settings > Voice & Video. Confirm that the intended input device is selected and check the input mode if the microphone connects but stays silent. For a camera that does not appear, inspect the selected camera and its controls. Discord’s video-call guidance notes that browser users may need to enable camera access in the browser and accept its Allow prompt.

Check the device itself

For a silent microphone, check the headset’s physical mute switch and Discord’s mute state. Google also recommends checking the system’s default recording device and input levels.

For a missing camera, check its connection and USB port, then see whether it works in another app.
Check channel permissions if the problem is limited to one place
If voice or video works elsewhere in Discord but not in a particular server or channel, ask a moderator to review that channel’s permissions. Discord identifies Connect (join), Speak (microphone), and Video (camera) as relevant permissions in its voice and video troubleshooting guide.
Retry after basic checks
If the permission, device, and channel checks do not resolve the issue, Discord recommends checking browser compatibility, operating-system updates, and device connections, then restarting the call, browser, or device as appropriate.
