Compatibility and performance depend on the particular game, emulator build, operating system, GPU, and driver. Start by checking that your system meets the emulator’s graphics API requirements and that the exact game has made it beyond a basic boot on the build you plan to use.
Why there is no universal “best settings” preset
PS5 emulation remains experimental. SharpEmu says it is focused on accuracy and infrastructure rather than game-specific compatibility; it can load real game executables and execute native CPU instructions, while GPU-related functionality is only partly handled. Its maintainers warn that performance varies by game, operating system, and GPU driver. SharpEmu project documentation
KytyPS5 reports that it can boot 2D titles and a selection of 3D games, while development focuses on compatibility and boot reliability. Its maintainers likewise caution that compatibility, stability, and performance can vary between versions, and that crashes or graphical glitches may occur. KytyPS5 project documentation
That makes generic advice such as “turn this option up for more FPS” unreliable without controlled, same-game testing. The official material reviewed does not establish universally optimal CPU-engine, resolution, graphics-quality, or frame-pacing settings.

Check these prerequisites first
Use a current emulator build
Download the build from the emulator project’s official page and check whether a newer release is available. SharpEmu’s downloads listing showed v0.0.4-release.2, dated September 25, 2026; release information can change, so verify the current listing before installing. SharpEmu downloads
Verify Vulkan and update the graphics driver
SharpEmu requires a Vulkan-capable GPU and recommends current graphics drivers. Its Windows and Linux output uses Vulkan, while macOS uses MoltenVK. KytyPS5’s renderer targets Vulkan 1.3, so confirm that the GPU and driver support that version if you intend to use KytyPS5. SharpEmu project documentation KytyPS5 project documentation

A compatible graphics card is a prerequisite, not a guarantee that a particular game will work. The available evidence does not validate a specific GPU model as a universal recommendation or establish a general CPU or GPU performance ranking.
Check your game’s status before changing settings
Look up the exact title on the emulator’s compatibility information and note the tested build. SharpEmu’s status labels distinguish “nothing,” “boots,” “menus,” “ingame,” and “playable.” These outcomes are not interchangeable: reaching a menu or gameplay does not prove stable performance or successful completion. The page’s live reports may change and are tied to particular builds. When accessed on October 4, 2026, it listed 62 of 9,135 tracked titles as tested, with 21 reaching gameplay. Its dated Demon’s Souls report said the game reached in-game, but performance remained heavy and audio was broken. Check the page again for the current result for your title.
Recent performance reports also need this game-and-build context. Tom’s Hardware reported on September 27, 2026, that six of 55 SharpEmu-tested titles had reached a “playable” 60 FPS designation. That was a report about those tested titles, not a prediction for another game or PC. The same article described a KytyPS5 test of the PS5 version of GTA V at roughly 40–60 FPS on a high-end system that crashed after the opening mission—a reminder that a frame-rate reading alone does not establish stability. Change settings cautiously
- Start from the current build’s documented defaults. Do not assume advice written for an older build applies to a newer one.
- Change only options documented for your build. SharpEmu exposes CPU-engine and log-level settings, but its published material does not identify universally optimal values or show that changing them raises FPS. SharpEmu downloads
- Test one change at a time. Use the same game area and conditions where practical, then check for crashes, visual or audio glitches, and sustained gameplay—not just whether the game launches. Treat undocumented tweaks as experiments rather than established fixes.
- Recheck compatibility after an update. Emulator behavior can change between versions, and a status report for one build may not describe another.
How to compare two PCs or emulator builds
For a useful comparison, keep the game and test conditions in view rather than relying on a single FPS figure. Record:
- the game and its compatibility status;
- the exact emulator build and operating system;
- whether the GPU supports the renderer’s required Vulkan version and which driver is installed;
- whether the game only boots, reaches gameplay, or remains stable during a longer session.
The available reports do not provide controlled, same-game comparisons across PC hardware or settings. They therefore cannot establish that one CPU, GPU, or generic graphics preset will deliver smoother results across PS5 games.
