- Check the exact instructions before using liquid. Sony says a soft cloth may be dampened with lens-cleaning solution for particularly dirty camera lenses, and explicitly warns: “Do not apply lens cleaner solution directly to the lens.” Moment’s QuickLock filter instructions instead call for dry microfiber and warn against harsh chemicals or water. - Stop if residue will not lift gently. Do not scrape, press harder, or escalate to stronger solvents. Canon advises contacting customer support for hard-to-remove dirt. How to store detachable lenses and filters
Cover removable optics with their supplied caps, case, or a suitable padded pouch, and keep them separate from loose objects that could scratch the glass. Store them clean and dry, away from excessive heat and humidity.

Tamron recommends ventilated storage and avoiding high temperatures and high humidity for interchangeable camera lenses.
