If both are configured to allow alerts, check whether your computer’s operating system is suppressing notifications. These are separate settings, so an alert can be blocked at any one of those layers.
1. Check Chrome’s notification permission for Discord
Chrome may block Discord from sending notifications, or remove a site’s permission if you have not visited it for a while. Review the permission in Chrome’s settings:
- Open Chrome and select the three-dot menu.
- Go to Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications.
- Review the lists of sites allowed to send notifications and sites blocked from sending them.
- If Discord is blocked, change its permission to allow notifications. If it is not listed, open Discord and use the site information control beside the address bar to enable Notifications.
Google documents both the Chrome notification troubleshooting steps and how to change site permissions. If Chrome identifies a site as disruptive, it may block it and require you to grant permission again.
2. Test in a regular Chrome window
Chrome notifications are unavailable while browsing privately. If Discord is open in an Incognito window, sign in to Discord in a regular Chrome window and test there.

3. Review Discord’s server notification settings
Chrome can allow Discord notifications while Discord’s own settings still suppress alerts. Check whether the affected server is muted or has server-level notification suppression enabled. Discord explains these controls in its Notifications Settings 101 guide, updated July 17, 2025.
4. Check the affected channel’s notification override
A channel can use different notification preferences from its server. In the affected channel, review its notification setting and confirm it is not set to Nothing or Mute. Discord’s channel choices also include All and Mentions; select the option that matches the alerts you expect.

5. Check your operating system’s notification settings
If Chrome allows Discord notifications and Discord’s server and channel settings are not suppressing them, the operating system may be preventing desktop alerts from appearing. The official Discord-in-Chrome guidance cited here does not provide verified, platform-specific steps for Windows, macOS, or Linux, so the exact path depends on your system. Check its notification settings for Chrome rather than assuming one set of instructions applies to every computer.
