Note what happened and alert the person or organization responsible for the information. Seeing smart glasses alone does not prove that recording occurred—or that anything was saved, transmitted, or shared.
What to do right away
- Protect people and avoid confrontation. If the driver is present and you feel safe doing so, calmly explain what information is exposed and ask them to stop recording. Do not grab the glasses, block the worker, or put yourself at risk.
- Reduce further exposure. Close or cover a screen or document, move it out of view if practical, and pause a sensitive conversation. These are practical steps to limit additional capture; they do not establish whether anything was recorded already.
- Make a factual note. Write down the date, time, location, delivery company, what information may have been visible or audible, and what you actually observed. Distinguish an active recording sign or other direct observation from simply seeing the glasses. Note whether the wearer appeared to upload or share anything, but do not treat suspicion as confirmation.
- Preserve evidence lawfully. Keep relevant material you already have or can obtain safely and lawfully. Do not seize the device, secretly access accounts, or escalate a confrontation to get proof. Official guidance reviewed for this scenario does not set out a specific evidence-preservation procedure.
- Contact the information owner promptly. If the exposed material belongs to an employer, business, school, customer, or another organization, report the incident through its privacy, security, or incident-response channel. Ask it to determine whether information may have been captured, stored, transmitted, or published.
- Use local reporting channels if content is harmful or intimate. If you find an online post or suspect non-consensual intimate recording, consider the appropriate local regulator, police, or online-safety service. The correct route depends on where the incident happened and what occurred.
What might have been captured?
Smart glasses may capture more than a visible image. New Zealand’s Office of the Privacy Commissioner says such glasses can take photos and video and can use an AI app to recognize and describe images, scenes, and environments. Sweden’s Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY) warns that microphones may pick up background conversations unintentionally, location data can accompany footage, and recordings or related information may reach third parties. These capabilities make exposure plausible, but they do not prove that a particular driver recorded or retained anything.
Consider the kinds of information that may have been exposed: a readable screen or paper; spoken details picked up in the background; and contextual details such as location. The impact depends on the content and circumstances. Health, financial, identity, access-control, and confidential business information warrant prompt attention from the responsible organization.
Tell the organization responsible for the information
Give the privacy or security team your factual notes and explain what is known versus uncertain. Ask it to assess whether the information was captured, stored, transmitted, or published, and whether it needs to take protective steps or contact affected people. For a serious exposure, the organization may need local legal or data-protection advice.

Rules and responsibilities vary by country and situation. In New Zealand, the Privacy Commissioner says an organization whose employee uses smart glasses for work is responsible under the Privacy Act for work-related collection and should have policies. The Commissioner also says organizations should collect personal information only when needed for a lawful business purpose, be transparent, and avoid unfair or unreasonably intrusive collection. This New Zealand guidance is not a statement of the rules in other jurisdictions.
Notification duties and deadlines cannot be determined from the fact that glasses were present. They depend on location, the type of information, what actually happened, and which organization is responsible.

When recording or sharing may raise legal concerns
There is no single global rule that answers whether a delivery driver may record in a particular place. The public or private setting, purpose, audio capture, sensitivity of the material, the wearer’s employment, and any later sharing can all matter. Separate the facts you know—such as an observed recording or a confirmed post—from what remains unknown, and seek local advice for a high-impact incident.

- New Zealand: The Privacy Commissioner says a person filmed without consent can ask the filmer to stop, but recording will probably not be illegal in many circumstances. The Commissioner recommends that people be told when they are being recorded rather than relying on a recording light as notice. Harmful online use and non-consensual intimate visual recording have distinct reporting routes.
- Sweden: IMY distinguishes ordinary public recording from secret filming in homes, toilets, changing rooms, and similar places, and warns that sharing vulnerable or intimate footage can have legal consequences.
- United Kingdom: A UK Parliament answer dated 30 June 2026 says public use may be lawful, while recording to cause alarm or distress or for sexual gratification may be criminal. It also describes platforms’ duties concerning removal requests and illegal material.
- Singapore: The Ministry of Digital Development and Information says photographs, video, and audio recordings are subject to the same rules regardless of device form. Under Singapore’s PDPA, later use or disclosure must have a reasonable purpose; non-consensual recording or misuse of intimate or private content may also involve criminal laws.
- Philippines: The National Privacy Commission says its body-worn-camera circular covers similar recording devices and emphasizes lawful basis, secure storage, access control, retention, and complaint or request mechanisms.
Where to report harmful or intimate content
Choose a channel based on the location and the type of incident, rather than assuming one country’s route applies everywhere. In New Zealand, the Privacy Commissioner points people to Netsafe for harmful online use such as abuse or harassment, and says non-consensual intimate visual recording should be reported to police. In the United Kingdom, the 30 June 2026 parliamentary answer says platforms must consider requests under UK GDPR to remove uploaded images. These are jurisdiction-specific examples; verify the current local route for your circumstances.
