Tripo’s developer documentation confirms STL and 3MF conversion targets, but does not establish an equivalent consumer print-preparation workflow. That difference is about documented features—not proof that Meshy makes better physical prints.
Which tool is better for 3D printing?
If you want an expressly documented workflow that includes printability checks and preparation steps, Meshy is the more clearly documented choice. Meshy says users can generate a model from text or an image, check and repair certain mesh issues, optionally split a model, export it, and open it in a slicer. These are claims on Meshy’s own product pages, not independent verification that a particular model will print successfully. Meshy’s 3D-printing page names Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, and Cura as workflow destinations.
Tripo’s developer documentation establishes that its model-conversion API can target STL and 3MF. That supports a format-conversion use case, but does not by itself establish which formats are available in each consumer plan or that a converted model is ready to print. Tripo’s conversion documentation describes STL as geometry-only and intended for 3D printing, and 3MF as a 3D-printing format.

What the export formats mean in practice
STL
STL is a common geometry-only route to a slicer. Tripo’s documentation explicitly describes it as geometry-only and suitable for 3D printing. A file extension alone does not tell you whether the mesh is sound: inspect the result in your slicer and check for issues that could prevent slicing or printing.

3MF
Both vendors’ reviewed materials identify 3MF as relevant to 3D printing: Meshy lists it among its download formats, while Tripo lists it as an API conversion target. Those statements do not establish that either service makes every 3MF print-ready, nor that access is identical across plans.
OBJ
Meshy’s printing page also describes OBJ downloads. OBJ is among its stated export options, but the cited materials do not establish it as the same direct printing path as STL or 3MF. Choose a format supported by your slicer and verify the imported model there.

Meshy’s Auto Split has a specific constraint
Meshy’s Help Center says Auto Split works only on untextured draft models and costs 10 credits. If you plan to divide a model for printing, account for both conditions before building a workflow around this feature; the documentation does not support assuming that an already textured model can be split with Auto Split.
What the available evidence cannot tell you
The reviewed materials do not provide an independently controlled, same-prompt comparison of Meshy and Tripo for watertightness, dimensional accuracy, strength, support requirements, cleanup, or successful physical prints. Meshy advertises checks for holes, non-manifold edges, and watertightness issues, but that is a description of the feature’s purpose, not a demonstrated result for every model.

Meshy’s comparison page reports internal benchmark figures for Meshy 7 and Tripo 3.1: overall proportion 81.0% versus 79.0%, spatial distribution 79.7% versus 78.4%, and surface details 59.8% versus 51.7%, respectively. These are figures reported by Meshy about its own internal benchmark, not an independent print-quality test; they do not establish which tool produces more reliable physical prints. For a fair hands-on comparison, use the same prompt or reference image, comparable generation settings, the same intended scale, slicer, and printer. Record repair and cleanup work, slicing errors, support needs, and print failures—not just which preview looks more attractive. This is a suggested test method, not a report of results.

Meshy’s printing page says models on its free plan are licensed under CC BY 4.0, with attribution to the original creator and Meshy. This is Meshy’s statement; the reviewed sources do not establish a corresponding Tripo license.
