Start by checking Apple’s System Status page for the specific service and your country or region. If Apple lists an incident, wait and monitor the page before changing account or device settings. If no incident is listed, check your internet connection, then follow the steps for your particular problem: downloading an app, finding a past purchase, or signing in.
A clear status page is only a snapshot. Apple Support notes that “A service outage may have started recently,” so check again if the problem continues.
1. Check Apple’s System Status
Open Apple System Status and look for the service involved, such as the App Store or iCloud. Apple advises checking for an outage in your country or region; status can differ by service and location. The page is live, so consult it when the problem occurs rather than relying on an earlier check.
If the relevant service is marked as affected, avoid repeated password resets or device changes while the incident is ongoing. Monitor the page and try again after its status changes. If it shows no issue, continue with the local checks below; a newly started outage may not yet appear.

2. Find out whether your internet connection is the problem
- Test the affected device. Open a website in its browser. If it will not load, test a second device on the same network.
- If only one device fails, check whether a VPN or third-party security software is interfering. Update the device software, verify its date and time (or enable automatic setting), and try another network if one is available. If another network works, contact the network administrator or provider.
- If multiple devices fail on the same Wi-Fi, turn the router off and back on. If Wi-Fi remains unavailable, contact your internet provider.
- On an iPhone or iPad using cellular data, check that mobile data is enabled for the app that cannot connect. For a device-specific Wi-Fi problem, follow Apple’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance.
These checks help distinguish a shared connection failure from a device or Apple-service issue; they cannot restore an Apple service that is down.
3. If you can’t download or update apps
For an App Store download or update on iPhone or iPad, check the alert or behavior you see before treating it as an outage. Apple’s download and update guidance recommends these checks:

- Try updating the app manually.
- Check whether a valid payment method is on file. Apple says one may be required even to download a free app.
- If you see “billing problem with previous purchase” or “verification required,” resolve the billing or payment issue.
- If an app is waiting in the download queue, touch and hold its icon and choose Prioritize Download.
- Restart the device and try again.
- If prompted, confirm your age. Requirements can vary by country or region.
If these steps do not solve the problem, contact Apple Support. A billing alert points to a payment or account issue, not necessarily a service outage.
4. If a past purchase is missing or won’t redownload
First check whether the item appears in purchase history for the Apple Account currently signed in. A different account may have made the purchase. Apple’s redownload guidance also identifies other reasons an item may not appear or download:

- The app may not be compatible with your device.
- The item may be hidden in your purchase list.
- A family member may have made the purchase, making Family Sharing relevant.
- An associated-device restriction may require you to wait before redownloading.
If the item appears in purchase history but still cannot be redownloaded, Apple directs users to report a problem. Apple’s Billing and Subscriptions page provides ways to review purchase history and payment information, request a refund when a purchase may be eligible, and access prior apps and media after signing in. Refund eligibility and ongoing availability of an item are not guaranteed.
5. If you can’t connect or sign in to iCloud
Apple’s iCloud connection and sign-in guidance starts with checking System Status, confirming that the same Apple Account is signed in across your devices, and updating device software. If the problem happens only over cellular, check cellular or mobile-data settings. For a verification-code problem, use Apple’s two-factor authentication code instructions.

If you forgot your Apple Account email or phone number
Apple says you can sign in with any email address or phone number on file for the account. To identify it, check Sign-In & Security in your device’s settings, look at Apple apps or services where you are already signed in, search Apple receipts or support emails, or ask a Family Sharing member to check the account information. If the account is locked or inactive
Too many incorrect password or account-detail attempts can trigger a security lock. Apple’s account-lock guidance directs users to reset the password. If the account is locked or inactive, a Request Access option may appear; availability depends on the situation.

If Media & Purchases is disabled
This is separate from an iCloud sign-in problem. Apple says a Continue or reactivation option may be available for a disabled Media & Purchases account. Follow the option shown for your account rather than repeatedly trying the same sign-in.

If the status page shows no incident and the connection checks do not resolve the problem, try again later and recheck the live status page. For an unresolved sign-in, download, purchase, or billing issue, use the relevant route on Apple Support’s contact page.
