On the Kindle 11th Generation, a brief press of the power button puts the e-reader to sleep. To turn off the screen instead, hold the power button for 9 seconds, then select Screen Off in the Power dialog. Amazon documents these as different actions, and the available guidance does not establish a universal custom screensaver setting or adjustable sleep timer.
How do I change the Kindle sleep screen?
Amazon says sponsored screensavers can appear on Kindle e-readers while they are asleep. These screens are separate from the device’s power controls: putting a Kindle to sleep does not itself remove sponsored offers. Amazon’s [Learn More About Ads on Kindle and Fire Tablet] explains the sponsored-screen behavior.
The cited Amazon guidance does not establish a universal procedure for choosing a custom lock-screen image or screensaver. Menu names and feature availability can vary by Kindle model and software version, so check instructions for your specific device before relying on a setting found on another model.
How do I turn off the Kindle screen?
For the Kindle 11th Generation, Amazon documents two distinct power-button actions:
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Briefly press the power button | Puts the e-reader to sleep. |
| Hold the power button for 9 seconds, then choose Screen Off in the Power dialog | Turns off the screen. |
The 9-second instruction is specific to Amazon’s Kindle 11th Generation setup guidance; behavior may differ on other models or software versions.

How do I stop my Kindle from showing ads on the lock screen?
Amazon’s account workflow lets you remove offers from an eligible Kindle. The page displays the applicable fee before you confirm; the amount may change, so check your account rather than relying on a price quoted elsewhere.
- Open Amazon’s Remove Ads from Your Kindle E-Reader or Fire Tablet support page and go to Manage Your Devices.
- Choose Devices, then select your Kindle.
- Under Special Offers, choose Remove offers.
- Review the price shown on the page and confirm only if you want to proceed.
Can I change how long my Kindle stays on?
The cited Amazon guidance does not establish a user-adjustable inactivity timeout or setting for a particular sleep duration. For battery conservation, Amazon recommends putting the Kindle to sleep when you finish reading and enabling Power saver under Device options. Amazon describes Power saver as putting the device into low-power sleep after it has been unused for several hours; it does not specify a configurable number of hours in this guidance.
