Prime Video Ultra is a separate U.S. ad-free option listed at $4.99 per month. Amazon’s Carrie announcement does not say Ultra is required, so the standard Prime membership that includes Prime Video is the relevant access plan. Ultra is an optional choice for viewers seeking its ad-free offering.

What to know about the series

Amazon describes the show as a contemporary reinvention of Stephen King’s coming-of-age horror novel. The story follows Carrie White, a misfit high-schooler whose telekinetic powers emerge amid bullying and social-media pressure. Summer H. Howell plays Carrie. Mike Flanagan is showrunner, writer, executive producer, and director of four episodes; Stephen King is also an executive producer. Amazon MGM Studios is the production company. Amazon’s announcement names additional directors, also listed on Stephen King’s official series page.

The novel behind the series

The series is based on King’s debut novel, Carrie, first published in 1974. Amazon’s 2026 series article says the novel spent 14 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list and has been translated into more than 35 languages. Amazon also says King’s books overall have sold more than 350 million copies worldwide; that figure is for his body of work, not Carrie alone. These figures come from Amazon’s article.
