Yes, you can carry saves forward through The Witcher 3’s CD PROJEKT RED account-linked cross-progression system, but that does not make every edition, transfer direction, or mod combination interchangeable. Use the same account and current game patch on both ends, and make sure the destination has the content and enabled mods the save requires. Backward loading into PC Classic 1.32 is not confirmed for every Next-Gen or Remastered save.
What “Classic” and “Next-Gen” mean
“Classic” often refers to the PC 1.32 branch, while “Next-Gen” usually means the 4.x update. CD PROJEKT RED released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered on September 29, 2026, as a free upgrade for existing owners, and listed cross-platform mod support among its changes. GamesRadar reported CD PROJEKT RED’s confirmation that existing saves carry over to Remastered.

Those carry-over statements do not establish that every 4.x or Remastered save can be opened in reverse by PC Classic 1.32. Nor is there an official compatibility matrix covering every PC build and community mod. Check the exact build and mod notes before relying on a reverse transfer.
How to move a save to another edition or platform
For documented transfers, use cross-progression rather than assuming local saves are interchangeable. CD PROJEKT RED’s PS4-to-PS5 instructions describe the transfer process, while its general cross-progression guide explains the account-linked cloud flow.

- Link the source game to your CD PROJEKT RED account.
- Create a save and check that it has uploaded to the cloud; the cloud icon indicates an uploaded save.
- Install or open the destination edition and link it to the same CD PROJEKT RED account.
- Open Load Game in the destination game and select the cloud save.
If the save does not appear or will not load, first check that both ends use the same account, that the source save finished uploading, and that the destination has the required game content and compatible enabled mods.
Will the mods come with the save?
Do not assume a save transfer also makes its entire mod setup available or compatible. CD PROJEKT RED says cross-platform transfers require the same set of enabled mods on both platforms. A mod that is unsupported on the destination may be ignored there, and missing or incompatible mods can prevent the save from loading correctly. Check the mod’s platform tag and the mod author’s compatibility notes for the specific game build.

Mods affected by game updates
Mods containing XML, script files, or w3strings may need updating after a game update. CD PROJEKT RED says REDkit includes a way to update these mods, but that does not guarantee that an individual mod works with every build.
Modded console saves and achievements
On consoles, saves created with mods enabled are marked with a mod.io cog, and trophies and achievements are disabled on modded saves. Account-linked subscriptions do not override platform support or the requirement for matching enabled mods.

Check game content and editions before loading
A destination must have the content required by the save. CD PROJEKT RED says a base-game save can be loaded in Complete Edition, but a Complete Edition save cannot be loaded in a base-game installation unless all expansions and DLC used by that save are present. Its cross-progression save requirements put it simply: “In order to load saves via cross progression, it needs to have the same game content present.”

If a transfer fails despite an uploaded save, the likely checks are whether the account matches, the destination contains the save’s required expansions and DLC, and every enabled mod exists and works on that platform and build.
