Whether a Mac mini can run Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p depends on its Apple chip and unified memory—not just the display resolution. CD PROJEKT RED lists an M1 with 16 GB memory as its minimum Mac configuration, targeting 30 FPS at 1440×900 or 1600×900. Its listed 60 FPS tier for 1800×1125 or 1920×1080 starts at M3 Pro with 18 GB memory. These are developer targets, not guarantees for every Mac mini. Start with the game’s For This Mac preset, then make small changes while checking performance.
Check your Mac mini against the system requirements
Before installing or tuning the game, check your Mac mini’s chip, unified memory, macOS version, and available SSD space. The native Mac edition requires macOS 15.5 or later. CD PROJEKT RED’s stated minimum is an M1 with 16 GB RAM; Intel Mac mini models and Apple silicon configurations below that memory threshold are outside the published minimum.
The developer’s current requirements page lists these performance tiers. The resolution figures are output resolutions, and the FPS values are targets rather than promises for every scene or setup.
| Apple chip and memory | Output resolution | Developer-stated target |
|---|---|---|
| M1, 16 GB | 1440×900 or 1600×900 | 30 FPS |
| M3 Pro, 18 GB | 1800×1125 or 1920×1080 | 60 FPS |
| M2 Max or M3 Max, 32 GB | 1800×1125 or 1920×1080 | 60 FPS |
| M3 Ultra or M4 Max, 36 GB | 2294×1432 or 2560×1440 | 60 FPS |
See CD PROJEKT RED’s Mac system requirements for the published tiers. Its table does not name M4 or M4 Pro, so it does not establish an exact 1080p frame rate for those Mac mini configurations. Apple lists the 2024 Mac mini with M4 and M4 Pro options, but chip generation alone is not enough to infer a game result; memory and the game’s settings also matter. Apple’s specifications are at Mac mini (2024) — Tech Specs.

Use “For This Mac” as your starting preset
After installing the native Mac edition and launching the game, select For This Mac in the graphics settings. CD PROJEKT RED says the preset detects the Mac and assigns device-specific settings and resolution, with more powerful hardware receiving higher settings. It also sets related display options, including a target frame rate, resolution boundaries, VSync, and HDR when the display supports it.
Keep the preset’s assigned resolution for your external display when possible. The developer warns that “Using a higher resolution will significantly affect FPS.” Choosing 1920×1080 in a menu does not turn hardware below the listed 60 FPS tier into a guaranteed 60 FPS setup.

Understand 1080p output, MetalFX, and FPS
The game’s output resolution is not necessarily the resolution at which each frame is rendered internally. Cyberpunk 2077 uses MetalFX upscaling to render at a lower internal resolution and reconstruct an image at a higher output resolution; dynamic resolution scaling can adjust performance under load. This can help the game target its configured balance, but it does not guarantee a particular FPS on an individual Mac mini.
The default For This Mac preset does not enable ray tracing, regardless of hardware capability, according to CD PROJEKT RED. Its stated reason is performance: “For optimal experience, Ray Tracing is not applied in the default ‘For this Mac’ preset, regardless of your hardware’s capabilities.” Avoid adding ray tracing as a first optimization experiment if your goal is a steady frame rate.

Apple’s WWDC26 session on bringing Cyberpunk 2077 to Mac discusses the game’s MetalFX and dynamic-resolution approach. That technical design explains how the game handles image reconstruction and load; it is not a benchmark for a particular Mac mini.
Tune one setting at a time if performance falls short
- Begin at the preset’s resolution. Play a representative section before changing anything, so you have a baseline for smoothness and image quality.
- Reduce resolution before chasing a higher output setting. Resolution has a substantial effect on FPS. If you need more performance, use a lower output resolution or the preset’s assigned value rather than assuming 1080p output is essential.
- Keep the rendering distinction in mind. MetalFX can reconstruct a 1080p output from a lower internal render, so output resolution alone does not tell you the internal workload.
- Change only one graphics option at a time. Compare the same scene after each adjustment. This helps identify whether that option improves responsiveness enough to justify any image-quality trade-off.
- Leave ray tracing off while establishing a stable baseline. It is not part of the default preset, even on hardware that supports it.
There is no official per-model Mac mini benchmark table establishing exact FPS for unspecified chips, memory configurations, game builds, settings, and scenes. Treat the developer’s targets as a starting point for expectations, not as a frame-rate guarantee.

Allow enough SSD space and install the Mac edition
The game must be installed on an SSD; HDD installation is unsupported. CD PROJEKT RED lists 92 GB for downloads from GOG, Epic Games Store, or Steam, and 159 GB for the App Store version. Additional temporary space is needed during installation or updates, and the amount varies by storefront, files, and whether it is a first install or update. Do not treat the download size as the full free-space requirement.
The Mac edition is available through the Mac App Store, GOG.com, Steam, and Epic Games Store. CD PROJEKT RED says existing owners on those storefronts can download the Apple silicon Mac version for free. Its release announcement is at Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition Is Available Now on Mac!.
